Zanetti on the new push for a republic

It's a very good article by him, and points out the absurdities of switching over to a half-arsed republic that does nothing to make Australia any better or more independent.

Queen and royal families are anachronisms which are not needed. The Queen would never make a decision which was contrary to the U.K. Government's advice.

Therefore a shared Queen is contrary to Australia's interests.

Queen or no queen I'd hate to see a US-style Presidency in Australia.

Vulgar, crass, corrupt, self-serving ... and just look at the Donald Trump circus happening in the US right now. Have you ever seen such a vulgar display of rich men trying to prostitute themselves to the public in order to solicit their votes for becoming the next president?

I don't want any political system which includes the US-style farce in which only those who can afford to spend a few million dollars on a punt that they might get elected into the Oval Office are the candidates.

We would have had Bob Hawke by now as a President. And Dawn Fraser, Ita Buttrose, Ian Thorpe, Dame Edna, Rolf Harris, and the rest.

If the presidency is decided by the politicians, this will guarantee that political correctness will prevail, and the presidency will become the preserve of Australia's fringe people ... Aborigines, homosexuals, lesbians, a Muslim woman in a burqa, a Negro, an Oriental ... all the usual kiss-arse appeasement to ingratiate with the minorities.

I thought a politician appointed our GG now?

I did hear during the week on ABC radio National that the young demographic is leaning towards retaining the monarchy (if it was in your link,,, I could not open it)
The young ones apparently have had a gutfull of our self serving politicians and their push for a Republic.

I myself can not see how we can ever become a republic.

I can not see the public voting for a system where they do not get to right to nominate and elect a President.
I can not see enough politicians letting the public nominate and vote for a President

Voting for a president would add god-knows how many more millions of taxpayer-dollars that would be better spent elsewhere.

They're saying that Obama has been a do-nothing lame-duck president in the same mould as Malcolm Fraser who was a total waste of space as a prime minister.

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)
