How do you clean your gold rings, bracelets etc?
Sep 7th, 2015 at 3:45pm

On the weekend, I found some pieces of jewellery from when I turned 16, 18 and 21...all given to me by my Mum ( so yep...they have sentimental value ).

Now, these 3 pieces are from Europe and are therefore typically 14 carat gold.

And they're all tarnished  Cry

How do I clean them? Can I clean them here at home or must they be professionally cleaned?

Anyone here know?

NB. I've not had this problem with any of my other jewellery which are 18 carat gold Australian pieces.

Hi Lisa- you can buy tubs of jellewery cleaner- I used to use one and it works perfectly- Avon used to have one but I do know they are sold elswhere as well- a jewellers would be the go- I bet they sell it...the Avon one was inexpensive and if you want to keep your peices safe best to use a proper gold cleaning agent- I dare say we have a few clever ladies here who habe a home type cleaner recipe as well.

Its sure is Lisa.. the Tavern hosts all topics ! that cleaner is great too, if you have precious peices as it sounds like these are then well worth investing in a tub..it last's a very long time.

It's in cods second edition......coca cola, fill a glass or bowl, pop them in, leave for a few hours and they'll be like brand new.

It's an oldie but a goodie.

Copyright you say?.....oh the CWA has copyright amnesty.

Great tip pansi- I know it works on rust on cars and machinery ? And we could put it in the CWA tips section for the girls doing a course on car maitenence. I think Lisa might have got a few tips here ?

Ps- Jovial nit picker, no trolling in the Tavern thank you.

It only rots teeth, not real gold. It's brilliant for diamonds too.

Maybe we don't need to keeping searching for the magic healing flowers, just buy a 2 litre bottle of Coke, it works ok for thirst too.
