I am flabbergasted that, with all the sports heads that seem to be on this forum there is not thread about this farce.
The Matildas pulled out of a high profile soccer match this weekend due to an ongoing pay dispute with FFA.
Now, it seems that;
- The players are only paid about $12000 PA, but are expected to be "available" all year round.
- Even though it is a small amount of money, FFA has somehow overlooked paying the girls for some months now.
- The Matildas have asked for a reasonable payment (about $43K PA) for top tier players scaling down...
- FFA (that has a managment team ALL on six figure pay packets) decided that the girls are not worth it, so refused, siting an ongoing pay dispute with the Men and stating that the girls have been used as leverage in that claim...
Good on the Matildas for pulling out of the game. They are the faces of Woman's soccer, they are the real bread winners for the sport. The executive of FFA are NOT.
It was claimed that both parties are "annoyed" at each other, newsflash, FFA has zero right be annoyed, they are in the wrong.
Matildas are presently, and arguably, our most successful representative sporting team presently and FFA pay them a pittance (if they decide to pay them at all).
FFA could dump all or most of their six figure salaried hangers on and more than adequately pay the Matildas.
I think it would be reasonable for Matildas also to now up the ante and make the $43000 figure the base starting salary... Let's face it, $43K is not a big pay packet...
