I didn't have to force myself onto your wife.

(I did have to ask her to shave though)

merlin,  i think most true conservatives have turned their back on governments .

the bible , for example is a practical and spiritual book which i find useful but the high priests of christianity are not useful at all.

in the same way fountainhead and atlas shrugged are practical and spiritual books for the rightard but our high priests are not rightard at all. they are big government type of guys when all true conservatives reject government and should be seeking to "starve the beast"

so i would read some of ayn rands holy texts and then move on , flying as low under the radar as possible and realise that politics is really just a distraction in the same way that facebook, candy crush and the footy are.  somewhat entertaining but really of trivial importance to your success.

and a smart conservative would never spend significant time on such insignificant things.

you mention Miss Hansen who ended up in jail.

surely a smarter course of action would have been for her to study business at night school, expand her fish ans chips business, start a fish and chips franchise, start a family trust, invest her money, buy some waterfornt property and retire.  what good did all her work achieve. very little.  a true conservative works harder on themselves then they ever would on their job. pauline worked pretty hard and ended up with a criminal record and bankrupt.

how pitiful!!

Politics is not merely a distraction-it is our way of life and freedom that is on the line.

What good did all of Pauline Hansons work achieve ????How naïve.
She influenced Howard government decisions. The Howard government was very worried about her and her policies.

She or someone like her needs to come back because the conservative voters will flock to them since the current conservative government has been hijacked by a leftist with an extreme agenda.

this is possibly true but the correct rightard position when dealing with the hypocritical left (who support feminist extremism and then post things like this ..OMG) is to reflect upon the neurosis of the left.
Paradoxically, when the left reveal themselves for the people they are(very angry and quite dysfunctional) one should have the thought process of

"there but for the grace of god, go i"

they serve as a warning about ones life direction.
as i have said before.
find out what the left watch on tv and dont watch it.
find out what the left read and dont read it.

fill your mind with good rightard positive psychology.

your brain is like a factory and the ingredients you fill it with determine the purity of the product.

one of the most important things in manufacturing is to keep out the impurities.
dont let the impurity of leftard hypocrisy disturb what you are trying to set your mind to.
associate only with positive , driven, purposeful, achieving rightards...this is my best advice

Practical? Hmmm yeah, if a mob surrounds your house calling for your blood you can satisfy them by shoving your young daughter out to be mass raped and so sate the anger of the mob.

I stay well clear of that vile book!

what we need is decent people in the senate.. from what I see they all have one agenda...and its not Australia...

seems to me its a cushy job for 6 7 years no accountability whatever...half the nation wouldnt even know their names such a joke...

the whole system needs up dating and people need to be answerable........the system is pockmarked like some awful disease.

Half the nation would not know who the PM is cods.  That is why I reckon voting ought not be an automatic right.

Incorrect. Even school children know who the Australian Prime Minister is. It is part of the curriculum.  Plus anyone who turns on the ABC News can't help but know. Teenagers and 20+ year olds usually care less.

I agree that we, as adults, should have the choice of voting or not voting.  This compulsory registering with AEC on your 18th birthday and being made to "have your name crossed off" is childish. The fine of $20 is pathetic to say the least. I understand that this "compulsory registration with the AEC" was due to the Poms not bothering to turn up to vote and our Pommie "fathers" decided that we would.

That might be how the idea was sold.

Let's face it, compulsory voting was an easier and safer idea than actually educating the population politically. We see now how that is working out.

Well, I disapprove. Don't you? Most citizens care less about politics. They feel "forced" to turn up and vote or waste 20 bucks.  Many people move house and do NOT re-register so that they aren't compelled to vote for something they care less about.

Only in part. The first step is political education, engage the population in the political process - then we won't need compulsory voting.

However, to simply remove it would significantly undermine the sham we call democracy just that wee bit further.

If people are stupid, wealthy and/or ignorant enough to give up their democratic right and pay the $20 for federal elections (hint, you may want to look up what the fine is for your particular state, some are as high as $76) then I guess that's their choice. However, I do not support the self entitled political class taking advantage of political ignorance to further secure their place at the public trough.

Federal fine is $20—I paid it in 2013, not wanting to vote for either narcissist standing for PM. Both narcissists are now gone as contenders, so my decision is vindicated.
