It's high time we here at OzPol brought this skeleton out of the closet.

Domestic violence is a symptom of an a deeper issue. Violence being an acceptable as a method for solving problems beyond "immediate threat".

Examples of this attitude include:

  • Corporal punishment
  • Attacking someone because you / SO / friend was "insulted"
  • Bullying in the workplace / social circles

Everyone feels the same way about domestic violence, except the perpetrators.

I doubt you'll get confessions on Ozpol from either the giver or the receiver of family violence.

You're describing Oz Pol now Kytro.

Which makes me think that the effects on victims are just as bad online as they are in real life.

Maybe or possible even that the victims in real life could be on line perpetrators.

I could almost picture someone thumping on her keyboard with two black eyes, poor old dear.

Well...in The Tavern's "Relationship Matters" topic (just before it was trashed by Aussie who is now banned from there)...I tried to bring this issue up there.

That topic is now locked.

But I'm not going to remain silent.

I recently posted about my own mum in there.

For no reason and without warning, last week she pushed me causing me to fall. The good thing was that the kids were already taken by their dad to the car so no one witnessed the event.

The resultint bruising to my arm and leg which I've been hiding from everyone though isn't nice....it reminds me of the shock I got. But that's nothing compared to the bruising in my heart.

Today, I'm expected to go to my mum's to help her out. It's my turn to do so.

The cause of her aggression (I've only just found this out) is due to her terminal illness. There's a region of the brain which governs our behaviour, aggression etc apparently. Her MRI scans have consistently shown growing abnormalities in that region.

So her aggression has a valid reason IMO. But it still doesn't make things easy.

Lord knows what I'm in for this afternoon. I'm not taking the kids with me in case they witness anything aggressive.

Anyway...that's my confession.

It's in the news every single freaking day.

It's time it made news HERE on OzPol.

Why?

Do you think anybody is going to say "yeah, domestic violence is cool.  I'm all for it" and then argue that point?

I don't know what's going to be posted by others here.

I've only just started this topic.

I do know that people have their viewpoints, experiences, personal/professional knowledge to draw on when making comments on this issue.

This input can help us all to grasp and understand what domestic violence really is.

Of course you wouldn't take the kids, if she strikes out at her beloved daughter, she will strike anyone.....no mother in their right mind would take small children to an environment like that.

Take your boxing gloves this afternoon, Lisa.

It's like when someone in the family gets all riled up and pays out on someone else in the family, either verbally, psychologically or physically.

You're asking for an evolution in homo sapiens that might never come Lisa.
Laws don't seem to do much good.

Ahhh. Correct.

And this is certainly the case when the perpetrator is a lawyer or high up in the police force unfortunately.

And that's my specialty.....middle class DV. It's a very lethal form of DV for victims and the perpetrators are not always brought to justice.

I reckon they should stop calling it DOMESTIC violence.. there is nothing DOMESTIC about it..

calling it domestic softens it IMO.. its FAMILY VIOLENCE FAMILY AGGRESSION it affect more than just one person who is receiving it...its getting worse and all we do is look for somethin g to BLAME it on...  dont buy that.. it is the excuses that allows people to think.. well I really didnt bash her  the booze did it or my sick childhood did it...

we have basically taken every responsibility away from each person... everyone has an excuse today for doing what they do...

throw the book at them THERE IS NO EXCUSE...simple as that...

as it is the victim is more at fault these days..." why didnt she leave before he did this."..????????..its her fault she shouldnt have stayed... yeah right..

my mum was in a not good marriage but as she said. it was her work that made the home she put everything into it why should she leave....

there should never be any excuse for VIOLENCE I dont care if she is the biggest nagger in the world...no excuses.
