Laws don't seem to do much good.

I reckon they should stop calling it DOMESTIC violence.. there is nothing DOMESTIC about it..

calling it domestic softens it IMO.. its FAMILY VIOLENCE FAMILY AGGRESSION it affect more than just one person who is receiving it...its getting worse and all we do is look for somethin g to BLAME it on...  dont buy that.. it is the excuses that allows people to think.. well I really didnt bash her  the booze did it or my sick childhood did it...

we have basically taken every responsibility away from each person... everyone has an excuse today for doing what they do...

throw the book at them THERE IS NO EXCUSE...simple as that...

as it is the victim is more at fault these days..." why didnt she leave before he did this."..????????..its her fault she shouldnt have stayed... yeah right..

my mum was in a not good marriage but as she said. it was her work that made the home she put everything into it why should she leave....

there should never be any excuse for VIOLENCE I dont care if she is the biggest nagger in the world...no excuses.

Awesomely stated!

Cods, your post reminded me of something.

Did you know that if someone assaults you/disables you etc you can apply for compensation as a victim?

If the perperator is or was in any form of a domestic relationship...you can apply too!

Good news? No!

http://victimsofcrime.com.au/compensation/

Now compare the figures above with these :

http://www.victimsofcrime.vic.gov.au/home/going+to+court/compensation+and+financ...

Apologies for not providing links to NSW websites.

None are available.

Ahhh. Correct.

And this is certainly the case when the perpetrator is a lawyer or high up in the police force unfortunately.

And that's my specialty.....middle class DV. It's a very lethal form of DV for victims and the perpetrators are not always brought to justice.

Why is it any different to any other domestic violence?

The victim usually has no access to money so they can flee the home.

The perpetrators of upper class and lower class are not usually brought before the courts either, unless it ends in serious injury or murder.

It certainly is in the news lately.

I actually discussed this with my wife lately, whether we could think of any friends/aquaintences that might be a DV perp. We honestly couldnt think of one person, but i guess it is well hidden.

It does make you wonder though just how prevalent it is?

How many cases pop up each year in 23,000,000 people?

Good to see the government is doing something about it regardless of the numbers.

In India your people practice a ritual where the widow is cremated with the husband Unforgiven. It's called Sati or Widow Burning. Now that's abuse.

look I do know naggers....but the point it.. if you cannot talk to this person the nagger.. then you can seek counselling today something that was never there years ago...you do not have to remain in a marriage anymore  .. if you want the marriage to work.. then get help to get the tools to make it work...no marriage is perfect ..

but turning to VIOLENCE is never ever the answer to any problem...even shouting is WRONG.. its intimidating to say the least...we have to find answers...

personally I would like to see more on this in high schools.... lisa is right these topics get shut down...

we now have education regarding same sex parenting...in schools..

but nothing on living together in harmony...and VIOLENCE IS A NO NO...kids should be encouraged to report violence in their homes.. maybe that would make some think twice.

children should not be afraid to be in their own homes because of VIOLENCE yet this is the case more and more..

Nah.  You mean her nose.  It gets longer with every claim she makes.  Now she's a specialist in middle class domestic violence.

Not at all.

The system is geared (for want of a better word) for working class DV.

What if they don't agree to counselling?

But if you don't, the nagger, who is very likely a 'she' will take your kids, your house, your car and a hefty slice of your future income.  Doesn't sound like a very good deal.  It sounds like rewarding bad behaviour.

No! I disagree.

Get counselling, get the issues out and sorted there.

It may very well mean a break up (depending on the circumstances)....but at least the process will be professionally documented and managed by someone neutral.

Also, if the matter does go to court for whatever reason, it makes participants look good....like they are trying to make the best of a bad situation.

Let's face it, these situations are bad...for everyone involved. Esp if kids are involved.

No! Agree to counselling, get the issues out and sorted there.

It may very well mean a break up (dependingon the circumstances)....but it will be professionally documented and managed by someone neutral.

Also, if the matter does go to court it makes both participants look good....like they are trying to make the best of a bad situation.

What Court are you referring to?

Sorry Honky, forgot to add that I myself have personally been through this journey.

It would have made matters easier for the kids and our bank balance had my ex bothered to come along to counselling. It would have nipped a lot of issues in the bud there and then. Ok?

And that's my point - 2 have to agree to counselling, otherwise its not on.

Quote:
Him:  Honey I was uhhh thinking we should uhh see a counsellor..

Her: I'll give you f***g counselling you spineless loser blah blah blah....

*3 hours pass*

Her:...blah blah blah blah

A man has no recourse when he's been whipped.  Support for women grows and grows, but this is so one-dimensional.  Every man has a breaking point and if they keep getting pushed to it, they are going to keep breaking.
