Yes, violence is part of human nature, we will never eradicate it completely.

What do you mean that violence free's us? I don't quite get that.

Adolph had that right - an entire nation's economy and worked view is based on war....

However, our friend here may be discussing the true nature of violence, and how it is manifested in our societies...  I've explain before that violence is involved in legislation, law-upholding and so forth - in OUR society this entrenched and systematic violence (primarily of the State) is supposed to be bounded by reason and decency.

I sought to explain that to a Professor of Peace Studies who was foolish enough to ask if we live in a violent society.... as a Sri Lankan he thought it was only a violent society when factions warred against one another with the mass of the people between two fires etc.

Sad, really - if he rounded out his studies with a look at terrorism and so forth, and a few other things, he could have arrived at a more holistic view of what actually constitutes violence in our society.  As it is, he missed out on a chair at Grappler U....  Rastus Xavier, the Haitian survivor, has that chair.

bollocks.

Quote:
Domestically, I would say that violence is most often initiated by females.
Some men have not enough self control and they retaliate.

Domestically it is usually misunderstandings between couples and provocation's come from both sides- but you got it spot on with your assertion that some men cannot control their killer instinct when it comes to violence against women.

In which case they are dangerous, and probably shouldn't be allowed to just wander about until they learn some self control (yes, it is possible to teach people how to do this).

Teach women that slapping, kicking, punching, and throwing knives is not on.. that'd help.

but most domestic violence is reported only after repeat offences....yes we know today a lot of people jump up and down and order avos..for the slightest upset. which is extreme....in some cases

I agree usually the angry female...

the courts need to order mediation in those cases before avos..we need to talk our problems out.. I mean really talk them out...even put in camera or audio.. so the perps can hear/see  themselves......

we dont see our own faces when we dish out the screaming and yelling....we just try to be the loudest...and shout the other person into silence.....

we are all capable of very nasty behavior.....I mean would any women hold back if a rapist or mugger got her.... no she wouldnt.. she would fight back and be very ugly......we hope...its called self preservation.....

we have I believe extreme ANGER problems today...

no control

most of us wouldnt raise a hand let a lone a fist to another person.......we have inbuilt control thankfully..

and then we have the few

and  the stats tell us  they appear to be growing in numbers.. Angry Angry Angry

I suggested that years ago, cods - nobody wants to listen - all they see is the opportunity to beat up on a few 'bad' men, and that's their only answer to the issue.

I don't expect anything else from this current blurb about the whole deal - just more abused, alienated, hostile men and more killings as a result.

A better way is to not escalate minor issues by utilising the unwarranted violence of the State to resolve your petty differences.

Actually my family was sort of middle class - my grandfather was the top man in his profession, my grandmother inherited well from her parents, who made their bones in pubs in the 1850's on... my father was number five on the seniority list in the Fire Brigade.. my mother's family include the likes of Garfield Barwick etc... we should have been well-cared for and had every opportunity in life - my two parents, in my eyes, were clinically insane - I know mum was schizophrenic to the max and dad drank way too much.  Instead of prospering mightily, highest IQ in my A class etc - my first good pair of shoes cam from the Army at seventeen...

I have more concern for my two sisters than for myself - I'm tough... not rough - tough.

not to be unkind grap.. but your mum didnt choose schizophrenia

your dad did choose alcohol

nothing can undo your childhood but you can leave it in the past and forgive and move on...times being what they were... understanding was not at a great level....

we know more today than ever before.. yet we are still floundering like whales on a beach....

you seem very sad grap I am sorry for that all you can do is prevent it from going further.. the pain and horror of a lost childhood.....
your sisters have you  and you have  each other.. how lucky are you guys...

I know on the face of it that doesnt seem much.. but mum and dad have left.. and you guys are still here and as you say...tough.. I say  STRONG ...

it takes strength to keep going without bitterness.

be a good parent. brother.uncle.. whatever it takes always be good at it...I promised myself I would b e a good grand parent I think I am doing that...its all I have to offer after all..

Nice post Grappler. I have always said, once we become adults we are all responsible for ourselves. In life stuff happens. It's how you approach the problems that life throws up at you.

Wayne Dyer famous Psychologist, said in his final years love and forgiveness are the keys to peace in this life.

Having been through the fire more times than I care to remember, I totally agree with Wayne Dyer.

You have to be able to forgive everyone, everything, a BIG ASK but a step that will take you closer to Peace than you have ever been.

It will make you INSPIRED which when you break it down that is....IN SPIRIT.

Took me a long, long time to get my head around Forgiveness but in the end..You have to be able to Forgive.

I have stated before, and I'll state it again, no one should be violent, but even if they are going beyond self defence isn't reasonable.

You don't escalate, it just makes things worse. Defend yourself by all means, but as soon as it's safe to do so, leave the situation.

grap sadly the stats tell us the worst violence comes from the males....no one is saying ONLY males.. just for the main part... look at the aboriginal stats they are horrendous...

sorry grap but a women should be allowed to leave a violent relationship like Rose Batty without being hounded and threatened..until in the end it explodes in the worst way... sorry mate but HE DID kill his only son...a man drove his 3 sons into a river so they drowned to get back at his wife.. another set fire to his two children...this is all in punishment.. you cant ignore it...

you take far too much notice of people on here and take that as the general community.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes heaven help us if it is.

do you receive any of these petitions  you can sign...they are I believe having some success....I am choosy which ones I sign..but I am sure there have been some on violence and putting a stop to it..

and that message is getting louder and louder...

mate no man can justify hitting a women...

I know some women are more than over the top when it comes to rage...and no they also need to keep their hands to themselves...

perhaps if the male takes an avo out against her she may start taking a good look at her actions..

but I am sorry there will never be any excuse for a male to hit a women...

and I would be surprised if you stood by and watched your son hit his partner.. Sad Sad

There may well be one.  Do you also fly a flag which says there is no excuse for a woman to hit a man......or....say.....cut off his penis while he is asleep?
