Violence sure wouldn't help matters.

If you are unhappy in the relationship, you leave. Yes it may end up being costly, but ultimately it could end up much worse if you try to use force.

There's always an alternative option to violence.

Plenty of men have walked away from their house and their kids rather than stay and live in misery......and vice versa.

You shouldn't expect anyone to make such a crappy choice.

Lose your lifes work and abandon your children to a life of poverty and misery

or

You people must have bumped your head if you think the first option has a better outcome.

I see your point. She has a choice too, if she doesn't like the slaps she can leave and see you in court, with school aged kids she is bound to get 60% of your assets or more.

If she doesn't mind, that's ok too, some women will put up with the odd thumping for lifestyle, that their choice.

Wrong! Counselling brings out issues and next step plans.

It can also be very impt for future Family Court proceedings re asset distribution, spouse support etc. Very impt.

The Family Court are only concerned with the children from that marriage, absolutely nothing to do with asset distribution. The solicitors will have worked out suitable child maintenance payments depending on the needs of the children and the ability of the other parent to pay.

The court sets out Interim then Final orders on EVERYTHING based on EVERYTHING which is of evidentiary value.

In India your people practice a ritual where the widow is cremated with the husband Unforgiven. It's called Sati or Widow Burning. Now that's abuse.

Doubleplusgood must have been a cremated Indian widow in a former life.

He is also posting crap.  The practice was outlawed in the 1800s.

And conduct is not of evidentiary value.  Hasn't been since 1975.

What helps is attitude. Attitude within a culture can change (as it has many times before). The less acceptable it is  socially, the fewer people will participate, and keep silent about it.

Again well said.

Probably best we all get back to domestic violence.

The Family Court of Australia is another issue/topic altogether which can and has sidetracked us.  I'm sorry for helping that happen here today.

And boy of kindy age and above knows that if you constantly antagonize someone, they may end up smacking you.  They don't tend to get much sympathy either when they go to sick bay with a blood nose.  A lesson is learnt, and their behaviour adjusts accordingly.

I don't think it's unreasonable to hold adult women to a similar standard as a 4 year old boy.  Do you?

Ha! Didn't even notice it until you posted that.

It's the auto spelling thingy on this tablet.

Sorry about that.

Honky NOT Hunky.

No, what has side tracked 'us' (as it always does) is the sheer garbage you post.  If that did not happen, all would be well.

But even more costly for your kids.  You may be able to recover from having everything you've worked for taken by a bully, but in leaving you're removing the buffer between a toxic, abusive woman and your children.

What sort of selfish nice person would run and leave their kids in that life?

You can't help your children if you you can't help yourself. Just what exactly do you suggest as being an effective course of action? One that leaves your children with a viable role model

A key identifying characteristic of a perpetrator :

Watch who gets agitated in such topics and repeatedly causes them to be shut down.

They do this by attempting to minimize, trivialize and marginalize what is stated by a past victim of domestic violence ....effectively trying to silence domestic violence survivors around them.

Keep that in mind whenever certain people post in here.

And you can't help your children if you're not around either.

If you're looking for a one size fits all approach, and I strongly suspect you are, you're going to be left wanting - there isn't one - and that just makes it easier to do nothing.  Or, as is the case now, to keep going down an avenue that has zero chance of success, comforted by saying "we did what we could".  But that is not true, we only "do what we could" within a narrow ideological framework.  If its important to tackle the issue, that framework needs to be revaluated.
