Trans-pacific partnership:

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has hailed a new 12-country trade deal which covers 40 per cent of the global economy as a "gigantic foundation stone" for Australia.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was clinched in the US city of Atlanta overnight after days of marathon talks and could influence everything from the price of cheese to the cost of cancer treatments.

South Korea on Tuesday expressed a renewed interest in joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the world’s single largest trading bloc which reached a landmark conclusion on Monday after more than seven years of negotiations.

“Korea will strive to join the mega free trade agreement in any form,” Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Choi Kyung-hwan said Tuesday, adding that “the government will decide on the entry period after thoroughly analyzing the impacts of joining the TPP on the national economy.”

Australia has just signed up to the Trans Pacific Partnership. This is designed to improve trade relations amongst signatory countries. That agreement has touted the benefits it will have in regards to the field of biomedical research. In the USA, where the big biotech companies are, you can patent genetic research to protect your time and effort in to research towards fighting diseases. Now an Australian court today has stated that that doesn't apply to Australia. Australia is literally destroying itself.
