JERUSALEM, November 26, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli troops Thursday shot dead a Palestinian in Qatanna village, northwest of Jerusalem, bringing the death toll of Palestinians killed since early October 2015 to 100, according to the Ministry of Health.
The ministry said during clashes with Israeli soldiers who raided the village in the early morning, 21-year-old Yahia Taha, a local Palestinian, was hit with an Israeli live bullet in the head and was killed instantly.
Prior to this, army raided the village, launched intensive home searches and verbally and physically assaulted many villagers, provoking clashes with local youths.
The soldiers used live ammunition, teargas and toxic gas canisters and stun grenades to disperse the provoked youths.
An unidentified number of protesters were reportedly injured by Israeli gunfire during the clashes, while medical teams were denied access to the scene by the Israeli military.
Witnesses said it was expected that the Israeli raid on the village came after nearby illegal settlement Har Adar had come under fire from an unknown source.
In a statement issued Thursday, the Ministry of Health said 100 Palestinians, including 22 children and four women, have so far been killed since the outbreak of unrest in the West Bank districts and Jerusalem by the onset of October 2015.
The latest escalation in violence was in large fueled by reports that Israel was mulling to divide al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, Islam's third holiest place, between Muslims and Jews.
Escalating attacks by Jewish settlers on vulnerable Palestinian communities in the West Bank also helped fuel the current round of tensions, according to security estimates.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), between December 30, 2014 and January 12, 2015, the Israeli authorities demolished 27 Palestinian structures in Area C of the West Bank and five in East Jerusalem, in addition to two self demolition incidents, due to lack of Israeli-issued building permits.
UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator James Rawley has argued the Israeli demolitions violate international law. “Demolitions that result in forced evictions and displacement run counter to Israel’s obligations under international law and create unnecessary suffering and tension,” he said. “They must stop immediately.”
OCHA wrote in an official statement that, “The planning policies applied by Israel in Area C and East Jerusalem discriminate against Palestinians, making it extremely difficult for them to obtain building permits.”
