And if i tell you you that i've long campaigned for against the genocide of West Papuans do i get to have an opinion on refugees?

If you have, good on ya. They're the descendants of the fuzzy-wuzzy angels from back in WWII, right?

They are, and more importantly they are people deserving of fair treatment and respect.

What is happening there is a major human rights violation.

Australia has blood on it's hands over their current predicament.

Ok the vernacular may be dramatic ... but did yo read the OP?

I'm certain these women feel like they are the victims of war.

Yes, I did read the OP..however, these women could 'not be victims' by simply going home, or by not getting on an Asylum seeker boat.

They are fleeing persecution. How can they simply 'go home'?

Are they actually 'fleeing persecution' or are they country shoppers???

If it was me, running from situation where I, or my family were in danger...(Iraq, Iran, Syria etc) the very first country I landed in where the secret police, or Taliban (or whatever nasty group wanted to kill me) did NOT have power would really be an acceptable place to be in, until I could either apply for asylum, or earn the money/do the paperwork to go somewhere else..

Sorry, but ANY country where I'm not on the 'hit list' from the secret police  or whoever would be ok,

Do you know where the closest countries to the Middle East that accept asylum seekers is?

Do you know the closest country that is signatory to the UNHCR is?

It is Australia.

As for working for money in the closest landing point ... that's just laughable. These people are not permitted to work. They are lost.

Somalians fleeing persecution?

99.8% of Somalia's population is Muslim.

They're economic migrants who take a big risk getting on boats to enter our country illegally claiming they are refugees seeking asylum.
