Electric vehicles like the Telsa are fine. They have their obvious limitations the biggest of which is the extreme high cost.

High cost is not a problem with a lot of auto manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes so I still don't understand what your point of contention is ? Why do you have to keep parroting your brand of rubbish for ?

Holden and Ford and were trying to make cheap sh.t and look where they ended up. The Tesla Model S is a luxury car and not just another Holden Commodore or Ford Falcon.

You don't need 3-phase power for a slow 8 hour charge because usually people sleep at night unless they are insomniacs like longloser aka maria who drive 24 hours a day !!

380km in  24 hours? 380km in 4 hours, sleep the day away.

who cares about travelling 380k's. That's the exception and not the rule and the Tesla model S will do it anyway.

Maybe you never travel outside your suburb but for those who do like to travel, this car is unusable. Its a great car for around the city or on short trips, but we have often travelled 600-1000kms in a day, as have many people. And at the end of that day it takes 10mins to refuel not endless hours or even as much as 36 hours in this car.

Have you EVER travelled 500kms or more in a single day?

And you don't see a lot of the actual expensive BMWs or Mercs on the road either. Both brands make cheaper vehicles which sell well but the elite expensive cars are pretty rare for the same reason the Tesla is rare: price.

You just don't seem to get why families are not going to buy a Tesla. Probably for the same reason YOU haven't bought one - price.

In 100 yrs time the negative argument will be seen as a divisive and it's supporters will be seen as archaic.

You'll all be dead and gone and the planets future shareholders will ALL be driving electric, some may even be flying electric, but one thing is for sure, fossil fuels will be going through it's last tenuous grasp on legitimacy.

All in all, the uptakers of the Tesla couldn't give a flying f for the naysayers right here, right now...it's all quiet, smooth driving to them from here on in...it's the 10:80:10 rule...the negatives belong in the last 10, they are the one's to ignore, their opinion is baseless to a healthy future.

Yes I have in a plane. Only a fool would want to travel long distances by road.

They did a survey in the US once and found that 80% of daily commutes were less than 50 miles. Get into the real world will you.

So, you've never driven more than 500kms?  Well you are an odd character aren't you. I couldn't find a single person who has never driven that far. Most people in Australia have done that and way more on a regular basis.  But I forget... you don't have a car.

If a Tesla could do 500k's on one charge you would just move the goal post to 600k's even though it is not relevant to 95% of daily commutes. You really are a jerk.

I've often driven 1500kms in a day. I enjoy distance driving. When I visit some relatives in Western NSW, there is no choice but to travel many hundreds of kilometres each way.

Do you ever leave the suburbs?

Actually, we take the Merc for that!

But the point is that while the Tesla is clearly a great car, it has some serious limitations and a huge price tag. It could never be a family's only car.

The Camry is a huge selling car for reasons you clearly don't understand. And I can drive it anywhere I want and not have to pay $100K to buy it or take 36 hours to recharge ager 400Kms

i know why the camry is a popular car, of all the family cars it's the cheapest. Thats why. But after complaining for 9 pages that no one will buy one because you can't drive over 300km you've admitted you have a car that you don't use for long drives as well.

Why can't someone own a Merc and a tesla instead of a Merc and a Camry?   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Because a tesla is $100K while a Camry is $30K. And this is the crux of the question. Where extreme range is not a problem, why spend $100K when $30K will do just as well. Its a lot faster - which is useless in Sydney where 50KM/hr is a luxury.

Since I don't 'love cars' then you have to make a justification for it. Now if the Tesla was $30-40K then it would be a probable choice. But it isn't and I don't want to have to get three-phase power for the house either.

people buy  a lot more expensive cars than $80 000 for their second cars. It's obvious you know nothing about cars.
