I do this all the time. Please, God, please don't kill me yet. I'll be good, I promise.

I've gotten away with it so far.

You do seem to get your own way, NO?

Oh, I try, dear. I do find it helps to negotiate.

I understand that luvvies are instinctively open borders evidenced here, even in cases where someone is a convicted criminal, has spent time in jail, the rule apparently says 12 months or so, so not insignificant, and there is an ability to deport him, ie a known destination (hasn't been playing coy and losing documents for example)  the instinct for the luvvies is never the less, to not deport.

The luvvies? I thought it was the new Zealanders.

Please explain?

He's a tetraplegic who's been living here for 36 years who became dependant on painkillers.

Do you really think it is either humane or reasonable to deport to where he has no support at all?

How would letting him stay in his home be 'opening the gates'.

God you lot are hysterical.

A tetraplegic sent to New Zealand after 36 years living across the Tasman is the latest victim of Australia's tough new immigration laws.

The 56-year-old New Zealander, who asked to be identified only as "Paul", said the Australian Government "dumped me at Auckland Airport" three weeks ago.

He has no friends or family here and landed with only $200 and a voucher for a week's accommodation.

Paul - who is wheelchair bound but has some feeling in his arms - said he was jailed twice after being caught self-medicating with controlled painkillers.

After the first incident in 2012 he served 13 months in jail. A few months after his release he was caught again and served a further seven months.

You are allowed to self medicate with controlled painkillers if a doctor prescribes them, they don't throw you in jail for taking prescription medication.
To be jailed twice shows he was a criminal using drugs.

Can't wait for greenswine to be deported. Grin Smiley

Baron you don't understand what self-medicating means in this context. It doesn't mean taking prescribed medication on your own reconnaissance it means taking medication without a prescription.

Of course he was criminally taking the drugs.

That doesn't alter the point that he was merely trying to deal with pain. Hardly a hardened drug dealer.

And he's a tetraplegic who has lived here most of his life and has no contacts in NZ.

It's beyond cruel to deport him.

If a doctor prescribed them for him he would have had no troubles.

How do you get prescription medication without a doctor prescribing them, would it involve fraud?

You buy them on the street.

for goodness sake, after my hip replacement operation there was one night where I craved another Endone. If I had given in I would have been dependent on them. So easy to become dependent on them.

This was a stupid, mean act by a very stupid mean govt!

They call it hillbilly heroin, it's restricted for a reason.

Of course leftist twits see nothing wrong with breaking our laws.

I have Resident Alien status in the USA, I would be deported from the USA if I abused prescription medication and have my Resident Alien status revoked.

Depends on the person. I've been there when many people have requested a religious person be present during their final moments.

Yeah, it is restricted. People do become dependent on them in hospital etc. Instead of deporting the cripple why not put him in a detox centre? A bloody heavy handed approach. abbott really was a crap PM.
