Summer and Skin Cancer
Oct 20th, 2015 at 11:52am

Anyone here know much about skin cancer?

No one in my family has ever had this...so it's all unknown territory here.

Well....this morning, one of my neighbours popped over to tell us that our neighbour across the road had been diagnosed with skin cancer ....on his foot of all places!

He's in hospital atm apparently. Can't walk etc.

I'll have to go and water his gardens daily given the heat etc....hmmm it's got me wondering.i

Different skin cancers based on different exposure,

Melanomas seem to be about repeated sunburn
Other skin cancers relate to repeated skin exposure to sun, not necessarily burning

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

Crikey, I'm always out in the sun.

I just don't burn. I tan. I don't use any sunscreen. I've never used any. I don't wear hats, coz I find them annoying. I wear sunnies though.

Despite not having experienced a sunburn....you're telling me I'm at risk of skin cancer?

I hope you look after your little kids better than yourself.

I have to lather the sunscreen on my grand kids, then the hat, then the sun resistant rash shirt.......before we get out of the door?

Do you put sunscreen on your toddlers? I think you should even if they have darker skin. There's a special one for babies and toddlers, but I use my adult one because that 'baby-toddler' thing is a con. How old are they? they'll have a face full of freckles before they start school.

Am I right in saying people with pale European complexions are more susceptible to it?

That is rather than those with olive skins like the Greeks and Italians?

It's a quick biopsy, and then you are right to go about your day. Otherwise, don't over worry yourself.

He should have passed the sunscreen from the left hand side.

The top of the feet makes sense as they get irregular exposure to sunlight. I often burn mine, particularly when beach fishing because the sand etc scrapes the sunscreen off and if they keep getting them wet they don't feel the heat like your back does. When they do get exposed they cop a full blast because they are one of the few spots on your body where the exposed skin faces directly up.
