Buying a new split system air conditioner
Oct 22nd, 2015 at 10:27am

Anyone got any advice on what to get?

Wouldn't mind some tips on what to look for.

The Japanese brands are good, they cost a little more yet by the time you replace your cheap Chinese junk the Japanese stuff works out cheaper in the long run.

I'll need to see a few. It's hard to know just by looking online.

Ok....time to pack the car, the family and head off to see what's out there.

Lucky me  Cry

Where's the challenge in that? Aquascoot will be disappointed.

Now I'm wondering if anyone makes noisy air conditioning systems these days.....that are hard to use.

Don't you just press the buttons on the remote?......much like the tv.

I prefer Mitsubishi Electric

I hope she hasn't rushed off to buy one.

She didn't wait for ozpolitic advice. She'll probably believe some 'air conditioning specialist' from Harvey Norman.

Get five star energy rating.

Lisas pretty intelligent.
Mitsubushi and diakyn are the industry leaders.
Sort of like buying a toyota or honda.

I used a local A/C electrical company to do my splits for the house.
It's a 2 day job.

They are very good Mitsubs. Diakyns would have been as good

The condensation drain leads from a tray under the air handler in the room and passes out through the wall where it is clearly visible dripping while the machine runs. This outlet should have something like a mesh baffle to prevent undesirable creatures getting in and nesting when the machine is not in use.

Turn the power off at the breaker during the off season otherwise the powerboard will invite a short circuit from said creatures getting into the compressor unit.
