Welcome to the modern world Lisa.

Is the remote easy to use?  Grin Grin Grin

I can assure you Mum reckons it is.

You should try and buy one. Save up Pantsie....save up.

You might like one of these Lisa.

Electric kettle. They're easy to use. I would recommend a $7 K Mart one, guaranteed for a year.

Does anyone else have some advice on electric kettles for Lisa?

I doubt if someone from K Mart will come out and measure up for it though.

Well done Lisa.
Fujitsu are a well reputed brand.

I'm sure you will appreciate it on those hot afternoons and cold mornings.
I see A/C's as being a health bonus.

Well, maybe not so much on cold mornings ...

And make very sure the fan in the wall unit can swing left and right - and up and down. VERY important.

I don't get that.

In what situation wouldn't it be able to?

There wouldn't be one for sale in the shops today which did not have that as a standard thing.

Some split system air cons just don't have a mobile fan system. Keep a close eye on that.

And do yourself a BIG favour and buy the biggest unit in the shop. Don't be persuaded by some Indian or Italian salesman telling you that one of the smaller units will be enough for you.

Just tell him "vaffanculo!" and go find an Australian salesman to help you. If he follows you around then shout at him "Fottiti!"

Cool

Buggered if I know. That was about 12 years ago.

My brother made the mistake of having a split system installed - only to find the vanes inside the wall unit were 'static'. Weren't designed to move. Up until then we had never heard of such a thing, and that's what caught us short.

Let me repeat: Get a powerful brute or you'll be sorry. Mine is 2.75 HP (HP or candle power or whatever they call it nowadays). Don't get anything less than that.

And you think they are still of the same design today?

I have a DAIKIN split system. This last Winter in Canberra, I left it on 24/7 so that the house was kept warm .... and for the 3 months, it cost me only about $100 extra from the previous year's quarter when I used to turned it off at night. It uses more energy to "warm" up (much like fluorescent lights).

Oh, I did NOT go to the Good Guys and buy a "system" and then have to get "someone" to install the thing.  I went to the "local" DAIKIN Authorised Agent and they came out and used some computer thing to check the area I needed to heat/cool to determine the size of the unit. They gave me a quote and then supplied the system, installed it and they ring me annually when the annual "service" is due. If I recall the DAIKIN and the installation cost me $2,500 in about 2009.  I hardly ever use the cold air, however, I expect the same thing would apply .... leave the a/c on 24/7 rather than turn it off and on. We can only hope that Canberra won't have a HEAT WAVE Summer.

Congratulations, Neferti. You made the best choice according to the expert I was talking to.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'annual servicing'. I've had my system for yonkers without 'servicing' - and the fellow I called at the beginning of winter told me my unit was in perfect order. The gas was ok - the pressure was okay - and the compressors were okay. Nothing to be done.

Being a woman - they are ripping you off with this annual servicing nonsense.

The cheaper brands - maybe. Just be aware that some shops might still be off-loading these static units from some warehouse deep in the heart of China.

They come once a year, check your gas levels (which shouldn't ever leak anyway), pour a little radiator flush fluid down your overflow outlet and dust the filters . It should all take 5 minutes unless they stop for a chat .  ... all for between $80 to $100

you're talking to the wrong guy ... don't talk to the air con salesman, he'll always push whatever makes him the most money ... as far as cooling, they'll all do a similar job anyway ...

if you really want the best, its best to talk the appliance repair guys. Best way to find out whats the best is to ask them what they are called out for the least. According to my appliance repair guys, Mitsubishi is the one he is least often called out for.

He wasn't a salesman. He wasn't here to sell me a unit. I hired him from an independent company at an exorbitant $240 for the House Call to tell me why my air con wasn't pumping hot air into my lounge room in the cold early mornings as I was expecting it to do.

And the answer was - it's a brilliant unit I have, but like ALL of them except DAIKIN - they're piss-weak so far as hot air is concerned on very cold mornings.

I am otherwise very happy with my LG Inverter - and have it on almost all year around. In winter I set it to start up at 3.00am.

That's exactly what this guy was - an appliance repair guy. He was embarrassed to take my cheque after finding there was nothing wrong with the unit - but at least for that money I learnt an important lesson for next time - if there is a next time - and that's to choose DAIKIN and don't settle for any other.

Cost me $240 to know that.
