In what critics say is the latest evidence of the government's determination to control information about its immigration detention program, aid agencies including Save the Children and the Australian Red Cross were asked to offer "performance security" – in one case, of $2 million – during negotiations over contracts relating to work caring for asylum seekers and refugees.

It came as the non-profit organisations were also being asked to agree to clauses that would prevent them speaking to the media without government approval.

For the stupid leftards I've highlighted the relevant word. CONTRACT

Charities nowadays also operate like a business. They sign commercial contracts with governments all the time

It is common for contracting parties to ask for a bond. This is nothing new

I have highlighted the relevant words that you have overlooked: control information. This determination to suppress information is what we would expect in Iran, or the USSR, or North Korea - not a democratic country like Australia.

WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE?

Its a commercial contract

In democratic countries like Australia have what we call as "Commercial in Confidence" whereas in countries like Iran, USSR and North Korea you can buy it if you have enough money

It is a contract that you are supporting designed to conceal criminal activity like child abuse and rape. You should be very proud of yourself and the A wipes you choose to support.

'conceal'...  and you think that is somehow worse than the ALP and its legions of ACTUAL kiddy-fiddlers?

At least it is factual unlike your imagination at work.

Any individual caught in wrong doing should be punished appropriately however here we see a government deliberately concealing criminal activity for their political gain.

Since when have CHARITIES been subject to "commercial in confidence"?

For that matter, since when has "commercial in confidence" been required to protect the government rather than the business?

Since every time they sign commercial contracts

Charities are run like businesses - the only difference is in the tax treatment of their profits

Commercial in confidence exists without the need of a bond and secrecy provisions to cover up breaches to Australia's international commitments let alone major criminal activities.

This is without doubt the least transparent government Australia has had in at least 5 decades, does anyone recall if this was their pre election position.

I seem to recall something about transparent government coming out in their policy statements ?

There does not seem to be much that they said that they have been willing or able to do.

You are mixing the Commercial in Confidence with a performance bond. They are not mutually exclusive

Try again
