Based on performance I would think it was a valid suggestion.

yeah, just go protest where it doesn't effect anyone nor you can be seen  Grin

Do you autistic right wing morons even understand the point of strikes or protests... its almost like they are designed to create disruption as a bargaining method.

How does a strike like this hurt the government? It doesn't. It hurts travellers. How does engineers at Qantas striking hurt Qantas? It doesn't - it hurts passengers. Unions rarely think about anyone other than themselves.

Cash was torn to pieces on QnadA last week by largely a liberal / nationals audience. She had to go as far as disagreeing openly with party policy in an effort to get out of there in one piece.

Every time she opened her mouth disingenuous politics came out of it, much of it debatable in terms of fact.

If their planes don't fly they can not sell seats and this means they make no profit. Profit is their god, attacking their God can get results.

Remember this type of action is only available as a last resort in the event of failed negotiation. This position come after many months frequently over a year of the management refusing to come to the table in a meaningful way and to negotiate a reasonable deal. This is the end of a really long process and never taken lightly.

Qantas could handle that for a while. They do it all the time when they participate in discount fare wars with other airlines like Virgin.

I'm sure you could probably handle no wage for a week or two as well, but I bet you'd avoid it if you could. And discount wars are different. They're about keeping your market share, in discount wars everyone loses and passengers aren't pissed off at the companies..

If Qantas passengers can't fly Qantas due to strike action, they'll move to Virgin. They risk losing that passenger long term. I swapped to virgin years ago and have never gone back to Qantas except once because I had to.

Yes I remember when you wanted to string up the socialist Turnbull because he disagreed and how you celebrated when Abbott finally tossed him overboard. How you came out after avidly supporting Abbott, Turnbull you admitted that you thought he was awful and not really a Liberal at all.

Labor lite or something you called his opposition.

No that is a different problem - they done an audit and couldn't find anybody who had one.

A strike is a classic signal that managment (in this case the government) have failed to negotiate...

That would mean it is the government using travelers as pawns...

This crap is always a matter of perspective innit.

Not necessarily.

True, it isn't necessary, however it is consistently the case as demonstrated below...

Armchair_Politician wrote on Nov 2nd, 2015 at 7:20am:
Remember the Qantas engineers strike? The wages and conditions they were demanding would've sent Qantas to the wall. They only backed down after Joyce grounded the airline after months of protracted negotiations in which the Unions did little other than to demand more with no promises of better productivity.

Which was Joyce demonstrating management using travelers as pawns...

Qantas was going back to the wall because of outrageous CEO wages and poor performance for said wages...

Further, Mr Joyce played his part in the "protracted negotiations" which he treated as his zone to make demands.

Qantas was not the best example to demonstrate a Union using travellers as pawns to be honest.
