Nauru & Manus Island
Nov 1st, 2015 at 11:28pm

Do we have the world's most expensive refugee policy? It costs us a fortune - over a billion dollars in 2014 for  just over 2000 refugees on both Nauru and Manus Island. By contrast UNHCR spent $157 Million (or 16% of our spending) looking after 200,000 refugees, half a million internally displaced people and 1.4 million stateless people.

How long can we justify this cost? One country's hot potato issues is another's lottery win. We've substantially increased foreign aid and introduced a brand new Asylum Seeker processing industry which has injected hundreds of millions of dollars into their economies.

We’ve taken money (and jobs) out of the Australian economy so that we can send victims of war, terrorism and persecution to these islands.

What we've become is a Sugar Daddy. At the expense of our own citizens. The question is, should we persue a policy that has a massive expense with little gain?

No. We should abandon this outrageous policy at the earliest convenience.

Agreed we should shut the borders and let the little termites infest a place of their own bile religion. Indonesia.

Look on the bright side. Lifting and broadening taxes, so everyone pays more GST, helps fund these gulags.

Conservatives are happy to pay higher taxes for inhumane treatment of refugees, yet not to save our environment so to save ourselves.

Conservatives are strange creatures.

Nothing more important than keeping the enemy outside your gates.
Christ, we've got enough of them already in . . .like Mother Russia fr instance.

a totally mind blowing ammount of money.

The government are forced to spend this because each assylum seeker has 5 people from shine lawyers stalking them 24 hours a day and so they recieve the very best , gold class care.
This comes at a cost.
The big winners are the human rights lawyer hangers on and the assylum seeker industry moral 'chest thumpers"

the big losers are the assylum seekers and the tax payers

An extremely expensive failed attempt to offload our troubles onto a corrupt, third world nation.

Next country on the shopping list....Kyrgyzstan....oh my allah!

When will we grow up and take responsibility for our own problems?

So now it's racist to decide who we allow into this country?

These people should be given an opportunity to stay in australia with the following provisos.

No access to citizenship or welfare and they get reassessed after 5 years .
If they have started a successful small business (many will have because it requires a level of guts and courage to make the journey) they can stay.

Manus and naru can then be used to house those who dont turn up to their work for the dole programs.

this way we replace leaners with lifters .

Its like a football team,  we delist the non performers and send out talent scouts to get new recruits to help us be a winning team
