IT was fishermen who found her. The body of 12-year-old Tiahleigh Palmer was badly decomposed and confirmed the worst fears of her family.
Until the grim discovery of the little girl’s body on the banks of a Gold Coast river, police wondered if she had just run away from home. After all, Tiahleigh had done it before. But this time her family knew something was very wrong.
Her mother had scoured the streets, a Facebook page was setup calling for sightings and her grandmother called police and told them: “Do you want another Daniel Morcombe?”
With no word from Tia and no clue as to where she could be, the family hoped she could be hiding out somewhere, that she would be found and it would all be over.
But the discovery of her body last Thursday, on a remote stretch of the Pimpama River in northern Gold Coast ended that hope, and now a team of 50 detectives is working on what is being treated as a homicide inquiry.

this is what I mean about letting our kids down.....

some how this child was ignored because  she had run away in the past.... something a terrible lot of kids do my own son was one of them... grrrrr... another story...

I hate it when parents are ignored they do have hidden instincts its time we believed them no one will know if an instant search would have saved this child... but at least the family wouldnt be left wondering like they are now...

we cant have this attitude... a child comes to the attention  of DOCS then it stays there even until they reach 15 I dont care how much it costs....we have to do MORE...... does anyone else try to imagine the last moments of these terrified kids... I do....I cant help myself..

https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/30032272/vigil-for-lost-qld-schoolgirl/

"A child protection advocate says children in foster care are being left exposed by the legislation designed to protect them.

Bravehearts founder Hetty Johnston says the suspected murder of Brisbane schoolgirl Tiahleigh Palmer highlights the need for reform to the Child Protection Act.

Ms Johnston says the six-day delay between Tiahleigh's disappearance on October 30 and the police alert would have been due to laws restricting publicity about children in state care.

The 12-year-old's body was discovered on the banks of a Gold Coast river hours after police had issued their alert.

Ms Johnston says the restrictions on carers and parents when a foster child goes missing are actually making them targets for predators.

"They can target these particular kids because they are far more vulnerable than any other and response to their disappearance is less than adequate," she told AAP.

"If someone stole your child you'd be all over the place in 30 seconds and you'd be allowed to by law - but these parents, these families and these foster carers can't and these offenders know that. Make no mistake.

"We've got to change it."

Under the Child Protection Act, specific permissions have to be granted before anything which may identify a child in care is published.

However, Minister for Child Safety Shannon Fentiman said that shouldn't prevent a foster child from being named to media as missing.

"The Child Protection Act prevents people from naming children and disclosing they are in care, it does not prevent naming children who are missing, or taking every possible action to find them, including speaking in the media, or through social media," Ms Fentiman said.

Foster Carers Queensland chief executive Bryan Smith echoed Ms Johnston's frustrations.

"While we have to report (missing kids) to police straightaway ... our hands are tied then in terms of what the confidentiality provisions under the act tell us we're allowed to do," Mr Smith told AAP.

He said a carer could not contact the child's biological family even if they believed that was where the child may be.

"Essentially nothing. We can't do anything," he said.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the government would look into such concerns and also requested a briefing from the child safety department.

"There's not a person throughout this state who is not touched by what has happened to this poor young girl," she said.

Detectives questioned pupils at Marsden State High School in south Brisbane as they returned for the first day back since Tiahleigh's body was identified.

"She was an enthusiastic and friendly student who will be greatly missed by all her friends and teachers," principal Andrew Peach said."

We need to wait on the findings.... you know how I hate to discuss these things....

precisely grap thanks for putting that up...

we need to make MORE NOISE>. I dont care if this kid was a runaway.. SHE needed even more protection if you like...

as Ms Johnston says these kids are being watched it isnt rocket science...these predators can smell them a smell them a mile away.... why cant we do more to protect out kids... why cant we make the penalty for doing them harm twice as much as any other penalty... I am all for throwing away the key... like we did with Milat.

some people should never mix in society they abuse everything we stand for..

we spend more money caring for prisoners than we do for caring for our kids.....has anyone seena deprived prisoner???.. they can even have a sex change operation...they can even sue the system for being harsh not looking after them... omg....

can a child do that?????...have we seen abused or deprived children.. I am sure we all have  usually when its all too late..

Your son (who ran away and is alive) is a classic example of why the Cops do not immediately react as parents would expect when their child 'runs away.'

I doubt that there would be a parent (or two or so) here whose young post ten year old did not threaten to or actually run away for a night....not far.  I know I threatened as an idiot, and when shown the door......thought better of it.

My eldest step daughter regularly did a bolt when she was a 12/13 year old idiot...to three houses down the street....and the neighbour always rang to confirm she was there.

Took the wind right out of her sails, that did.

well no that would be too easy...jail for life meaning life...the main jail not protected let them be  with the big brave arseholes they are when dealing with kids........

I am so over the protections these people get....

if we dont make the penalties harder then there isnt much to stop these types is there??>....

look at Kerobokan .. not many return do they??...

yet we almost make it look like a holiday camp...and some treat it like a revolving door.

I DONT CARE .... its the job of adults to CARE ABOUT KIDS....kids think its a joke they havent a clue about the dangers WE ADULTS are meant to have that the ABILITY to see DANGER...

when my son was doing it.. times were different...we never even reported him...

but to me if a parent reports the child missing they are doing so because they are concerned... yet to have the police ignore them must be shattering...

did you report your daughter???..no you didnt... theres the difference.. if I went to a police station I would want ACTION>..NOW............ not 6 days from now...

stop making allowances... we need action BE ANGRY stand up and say our kids are worth it...

so they look for a kid whos hiding out at their mates.. so bloody what...

sooner or later that kid will grow up and realise how stupid they were in the mean time this one is DEAD.... because we havent the money... cant be bothered... ok shes done it before do forget it???...

As usual cods, you post is a mad woman's breakfast, but I'll have a go.

Get as angry as you like....go blue in the face even after holding your breath......Cops deal with this crap every day of every week, and if the Nation went on alert every time some dumb arse kid idiot went missing for a few hours, you'd need to spend many more dollars on resources.....and that means money coming directly out of your pocket, cods.  Police do not exist cost free.

Maybe that's a lesson kids ought be taught at Home and at School.  That is ~  "Kid, every time you call wolf means that when a kid is in real danger, maybe even you, kid.....no-one will bother."

In fact, cods.....that'd be a message I'd happily support Mum and Dad Morecomb (sp) giving to kids when they get all keen for more donations and make speeches at schools.

"Don't cry wolf, kid."

Don't be angry, cods - wait for the official reports.

Intro to Journalism first lesson is that every story is posed for a specific point of view - the one that generates most sales.

At least with regard to journalism you are correct.... anything else you need evidence to show, but you also need to be putting some literature out there to show first - and that is not easy.

You should try it some time - He Man - Fearless Writer Hunter.... kinda sings...

Might fit well in amongst the thousands of genuine writers trying to get something out there....

Just look at the number of online books here, for example, and not a scammer among them,  just people trying to get published and noticed, and maybe even provide a little entertainment or even enlightenment:-

http://www.amazon.com.au/

You'd fit right in, if you ever told your story........ how you hunted down all those online book scammers....
