I was scammed by someone claiming to be from Microsoft...when it all settled down my daughter rang microsoft and they said we never call our customers....ho hum..I did get my money back but the person selling was so well shall we say... so good...how can people live with themselves....???...to be able to talk lies and tell someone the roof will fall if they dont do such and such... is a terrible thing to do..conned by a phone call... creeps.
At one stage, I was getting these calls weekly. They are based in India judging by the accents. I asked Telstra to monitor incoming calls, but they were using VOIP, so they were untraceable. I used to vary it a bit. One time, I asked the caller if her mother knew she was involved in criminal activity. She hung up. The same person called two days later. I said "how are you today? We spoke earlier in the week. If you remember, I asked you what it was like being a criminal." She replied - Oh yes I remember. You were the one with the bullshit. Then she hung up.
If you ever get a call from somebody reporting to be from Telstra, just ask for a reference number. Say that you'll call Telstra when you are not so busy. If it's the real Telstra, they won't have a problem.
The problem is that whenever I get a real call from a bank, I tend to be overly suspicious. I ask them to prove who they say they are, and usually call them back on the correct number.
I never pay for anything on the phone. It's too risky.
