Abbott said Turkey and Lebanon should be taking in the refugees. Turkey now has 4 million. Turkey and Lebanon have both had huge terrorist attacks.

Refugees still need a safe place to go. The more we bomb Syria, the more we place civilians in danger.

There are no easy solutions here.

No easy solutions for sure. But sending refugees by the millions into Europe so they can bring their violence and primitive culture with them is no solution at all. And dont blame the west for Syria's mess. We are the ones trying to stop IS.

Who's blaming the West? The West is doing what it can to help. Australia is taking in 12,000 Syrians. We're bombing more ISIS targets than anyone else, bar France.

Abbott never said the West should do nothing, but he did advise Europe of the benefits of turning back boats.

This is a decision for Europe which, within the EU, has an open border policy. This is the very point of the EU. The last 30 years of history have been about bringing down borders, not putting them up.

Australia's biggest earners are tourism and education. We bring in over a million tourists, and over a hundred thousand students. We bring in over 180,000 permanent migrants a year, not including refugees.

Banning everyone would cripple the Australian economy.
