You just talk to them as you would to any other person. There's no science to it.

Nonsense.

Strangers on trains prefer to keep to themselves and not be intruded upon by suspect-homosexuals trying to crack onto them.

You mean if you catch eye contact with somebody you just what, glare at them?

Precisely.

"Whadda YOU ******* want?" is the standard and required response if you live in Sydney.  Cool

I just happen to live in a NO EYE-CONTACT ZONE suburb in Sydney. If you know what's good for youse, you avoid eye-contact as much as possible. It's a bit hard when you're at the optometrists, but otherwise everybody avoids eye-contact in this tough suburb.

Good point.  FD, how about you let us know how it goes with you, instead of making bullets for others to fire?

There is no harm in saying hello how are you.

There is no danger in meeting people.

There is danger in leaving with that person but there is no danger in saying hello.

In relation to children approaching strange adults that is both an extremely naive and incredibly stupid outlook.

mothra isnt reading the op... its about US anyone in OZ starting up a conversation with someone on a train.. who hopefully is a muslim????>....so OZ people can find a way to find out how they really feel about world events..

when I mean children I am not talking about 5 year olds.. alone.. what about 14 15 16 year olds...all children in  my eyes...

I had a Muslim in my office not more than 30 minutes ago, and we treated each other with trust and respect.

I get the feeling that a lot of forum members here have never actually met or spoken with a Muslim before.

Can I judge what Christianity is all about by the good Christian I trust and respect?

My parents weren't Christians I have never read the bible, I guess by using your standards I am an expert on Christianity because I know a christian

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

There was confusion there because you were quoting me saying "there is now science to it" when what i meant to say was "there is NO science to it".

You were pressing me to explain the science and i didn't realise i'd made a typo so had no idea what you were talking about.

Hope this clears it all up.

Let's hope FD doesn't forget to put on his flak jacket before he boards the train.

he told me   they wouldnt stand a chance if he came across them'   fight to the death.

I am still interested how he can tell an EXTREME MUSLIM from a nice PASSIVE ONE>>...

Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

but lets see how that train trip in Lakemba works out.. Wink

Here's a tip cods - ask them. See the opening post if this is too complicated.

In response to your other question - I have had a Muslim colleague tell me the history of 'his people' without even prompting. ISIS wasn't around at the time, but it seems they were largely on the receiving end of that sort of behaviour.

A Muslim looking guy started up a conversation with me last night while I was sitting on a park bench eating dinner before social tennis. But I got the impression he was not actually a Muslim, and I did not get the chance to steer the conversation anywhere before my game started, though he did express an interest in visiting Egypt, so maybe that was a missed opportunity.

I've raised my children to say hello, how are you to people. Sometimes you get a chat out it. Sometimes they shut you down.

What possible harm could there be in saying hello how are you to somebody?

Don't be so bloody naive.

In Sydney saying "Hello" to strangers is the best way to get into some sort of trouble as it is in any big city.

You're just asking for trouble in today's world.

maybe if you glare at them with hatred oozing out of every pore, you might have a point.

I used to go out in Sydney all the time. usually by train from the Gong. I found most people were pretty good. After all, the whole reason to go out is to meet people and socialise. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I am not sure why one would even want to talk to them in the first place.
