I am not sure why one would even want to talk to them in the first place.

Er......talking to white Anglo Saxon Aussies gets boring.

It's a big world out there, the more you talk to people from other nationalities and cultures, the more you learn about it....education is wonderful, yes?

Imagine only talking to white Australians however nice and educated they are, they are not Japanese, Chinese, Mongolian, Serbian or Russian.....get the pic?

You are like me Mothra. I talk to all sorts of people when I'm out and about. You learn so much, it's amazing.

I was invited to share a Filipino persons lunch today at the beach, all I did was smile at her, then she came over and invited me to her table......I only had one biscuit but she was so happy that an Aussie actually wanted to talk to her.

Racism is rife in the land of Oz. Ask any non-white immigrant.

The rise of ISIS presents a good opportunity to talk to Muslims about Islam in the modern world. The violence they inspire in western nations can be a good starter for a conversation we ought to be having. Unfortunately our politicians and media tend to present to shallow dichotomy when talking to Muslims, or talking about how we should talk to Muslims - either "ban them, bomb them," or "walk on eggshells in case we turn them into terrorists." I suggest a middle ground that reinforces the rights and liberties of all without shying away from the uncomfortable reality that faces us. It treats Muslims as mature individuals capable of standing up for themselves without slaughtering innocent people, yet does not simplistically deny the link between ISIS, terrorism and Islam.

The violence of ISIS and their supporters presents such a great opportunity to have this conversation because it allows us to demonstrate, by contrast, a fundamental requirement of civilised society: how to debate controversial issues without it descending into fisticuffs or exploding buses. Here I depart from both sides of the dichotomy - not shying from the difficult issues, while also not over-reacting. By this I mean not just keeping your temper in check, but also refraining from throwing out the freedoms that distinguish us from an Islamic State. We should make Muslims feel welcome here, while also making them understand how we feel about the more barbaric aspects of Islam. Trying to protect Muslims from our opinion about Islam is in my view just as dangerous as making them feel like we cannot co-exist.

So next time you sit down on the train and open your newspaper to a photo of bloody carnage, show it to the Muslim sitting next to you and calmly ask him his opinion it. For example, you could ask whether he considers ISIS to be a Caliphate, how a 'proper' Caliphate might differ from ISIS and whether he would feel compelled to support such a nation. If it is a story about cartoonists being executed, ask him what he thinks about the government's role in protecting him from mockery of Islam and Muhammed. If it is a story about acid being thrown in girls' faces, ask him what he thinks about a woman's right to dress how she chooses. If it is about Israel, ask him if Islam compels Muslims to make non-Muslims second class citizens wherever they gain political control. Most people who openly self-identify as a Muslim are eager for the opportunity to give their views in a safe environment.

Don't be shy.

As I read this I felt a rising bout of nausea as the sheer weakness and implied surrender came through. 'Peace in our time!' was the cry from another talkfest, while the actual victory was achieved through unrelenting demands for the peace we must have but enforced by soldiers.

We need less discussion and more action. We need to DEMAND that muslims and other immigrants who come to this country to stay embrace the culture or go home. I don't want to have to explain to anyone why beheading an aid worker or gang-raping a 9yo is wrong. If you don't know why that is wrong then we don't want you here.

Multi-culturalism is a global failure. At its very best it has two non-interacting cultures living in  a form of peace. At it's worse, it is machine-gunning music patrons.

Nobody moves to Muslim countries other than other muslims. The vast majority of their countries are a disaster and a wreck that no one wants to live in. So why would Muslims come here and repeat the same disastrous social, religious and culural paradigms that have wrecked their home?  But they do just that.  Maybe they just don't know how to be different. But we can help that by making it happen. Ban the Burqa. Insist on womens equality.  Want to protest against democracy and pro-sharia law? Send them to Iran where they can have their paradise.

Talk is cheap. Talk is weak. We want action. Decisive action because just as 'peace in our time' was an example of gullible stupidity, so is 'talking' to muslims. It is time to demand changes or get sent home.

There is no harm in saying hello how are you.

There is no danger in meeting people.

There is danger in leaving with that person but there is no danger in saying hello.

In relation to children approaching strange adults that is both an extremely naive and incredibly stupid outlook.

It's Mothra. Naive and stupid are here stock in trade.

It is nothing like that where i live.

But then again, i'm not glaring at people.

I apologise, mothra. More correctly it's "Whadda YOU lookin' at, DICKHEAD?!"

(I don't glare at people, but I have on occasion been seen to turn around and have a second look at a nice pair of legs that has just past me ... ".

I'm having a lot of difficulty seeing what I'm typing here. I had laser penetration treatment in my good eye today - (the other's blind) - and the blood seeping out is clouding my vision. I take Aspirin daily as a blood thinner, so I'm what they call 'a bleeder' nowadays.

What absolute bullshit.

Inter-ethnic racism is FAR more prevalent and nasty than Aussie to wog verbal *biffo*.

If I had leered at you at the beach, would you have invited me over for a kumbaya?

Of course not! There are no brownie points to be had for inviting a white, straight, Judaeo-Christian Anglo-Saxon over to you.

Why do you think the federal government had to ban ethnic football clubs?

Grin Grin Grin

You are just soooo bloody patronising of these Poor Misunderstood Ethnics, aren't you?

You must relish that lovely inner-glow that comes with having stooped to their level to make them feel better about themselves ...

Am I right?

I was screwed by 'multicultural diversity' again today, John. Happens all the time.

I walked into one of these largish Medical Clinics and sat down in the waiting room where around a dozen people were sitting quietly awaiting their turn.

For the most part you could hear a pin drop. Lovely and relaxing. Some people reading magazines, some fiddling with their Smartphones, others just resting quietly, and some talking in library-quiet whispers.

And then the doors to the lift opened like Pandora's Box - and out stepped a couple of bona fide 'ethnics' ... and for the next 45 minutes the peace was shattered for all concerned.

A constant, never-ending, backwards-and-forwards, no pauses-or-breaks, stream of verbal diarrhoea issued from both of them until ... (and you're not going to believe this) ... I was driven to reach into my shirt pocket and bring out a 32RRP set of earplugs to save my sanity. I always carry a spare set around with me whenever I leave home.

There are certain immigrant ethnicities that 'run off the mouth' compulsively, obsessively, and seemingly in an excited tone of great urgency.

You're safe this time, John - they weren't Italians.

Incidentally, John - I challenge you to go for a walk around Parramatta. Just take a stroll at any time of the day around some of the streets there.

You'll think you're in Downtown Beijing on a public holiday to celebrate Mao's birthday.

If Parramatta was Rome or Athens you people would be squealing like stuck pigs.

Neither of you are non-white mmigrants, but you see fit to stereotype their responses to fictional questions.

Forgiven for having no awareness.
