Honestly the best way to protect Australians from Terrorists is to integrate far better Arabs into the Australian fold and stand in solidarity and not fall for IS' game of fear that drives people to ostracize the Islamic community.

You can't actually protect people from Terrorists, all a Terrorist needs to do is make a homemade bomb from an online recipe and blow up a shopping mall, or buy an illegal firearm from bikies and shoot up a school. Not exactly hard. What needs to happen though is prevention and looking at the root cause of radicalization is the issue and generally it's angry, loner, young men who instead of engaging in self-criticism, instead blame everyone else for the fact they personally are unlikable or dickheads. This isn't unique among Islam, one only needs to go on Reddit or look at "Gamergaters" or PUA's to see the exact same thought process among young white men.

On action against IS. Sending is ground troops is a no no, I would even argue that mass bombing campaigns would further be counterproductive. Most join IS originally stemming from victimization from western foreign policy, instead of the west going in, the West should rely on and support the Kurds and "moderate rebels" to at least give the impression the region is sorting out it's own issues without Western imposition.

Serious?  Young men join ISIS for the thrill of the kill and more than a few for the opportunity to literally rape and pillage.  They are not victimised, especially not in this country. They are scumbags whose moral fibre is so poor that given an opportunity, they would kill and rape.  So yes, bombs away. The world is a better place without them. Maybe when these men of marginalised morals realise they are likely to be bombed and killed, they will reassess their lives and consider moving their moral line elsewhere. If not, they will end up in jail here.
Either way, it is better than the navel-gazing and self-criticism of the west.

--> meaning what exactly???????????

Oh, wait: ALL MEN ARE bugger*******... Roll Eyes , OF COURSE  Huh Huh

In Australia - we don't need to be actively watching 400 suspected  terrorists -

we need to lock them up - detention without trial.

How else can we be safe?

Bobby, locking people up wthout trial is an excellent way to be unsafe.

But notice how all the ones who have committed terrorist acts both here & in France
were well known to the authorities?

We can't take the risk of having them loose on our streets.

This would take emergency powers that Turnbull is too gutless to enact until it's too late
as has happened in France.

Hi Dnarever,

Do you feel safe with Turnbull running the show?

Can't see how it is any different to Abbott or any Labor leader considering his restraints.

He is probably weaker than most but the real job of protecting us is only hampered by political grandstanding which is all that they do - any of them.

I would say that his less hard line attitude locally is more likely to help a bit by leading to less local Muslims being pushed towards more radical options.

I see the biggest local issue and most easily preventable is the push toward radicalisation of the Muslim youth and in this area Abbott was pushing as hard as he could.  Abbott was more part of the problem so Turnbull would represent an improvement in this critical area if he can get his rabid ministers under control which does not look too likely.

But France has vowed to wipe out ISIS.

What has Malcolm done?

Malcolm has given moral support: it's called the moral law!

To  over-play his hand would not make sense .

Belgium warns of 'serious and imminent threat' to Brussels

By Michael Martinez, Ed Payne, Catherine E. Shoichet and Margot Haddad, CNN

Paris (CNN)Belgium has placed Brussels at the highest terror alert level, citing a "serious and imminent threat that requires taking specific security measures as well as specific recommendations for the population."

The announcement by the Crisis Centre of the Belgian Interior Ministry is advising the public to avoid places where large groups gather -- such as concerts, sporting events, airports and train stations -- and comply with security checks. The rest of the nation will maintain its current terror level.

If people take the terror alert seriously, Brussels will be "shut down tomorrow," CNN terrorism analyst Paul Cruickshank said.

"It suggests they have something specific and credible at the intelligence front pointing them in the direction that there may be a terrorist plot in the works," he said. "It also suggests they don't have a handle on it, that they don't know where these plotters are or where they're coming from."

The increase in alert level for Brussels comes as authorities investigating last week's terror attacks in Paris conduct raids in Belgium as they work to identify and take down the network of terrorists behind the carnage.

Salah Abdeslam, 26, is the subject of an international search warrant. He was last seen driving toward the Belgian border when police stopped and questioned him a few hours after the attacks, not knowing that he was allegedly involved. His whereabouts are unknown.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks.

http://edition.cnn.com/2015/11/19/world/what-to-do-in-a-terror-attack-paris-surv...

(CNN)It's a split decision that could save your life in a terror attack -- do you run away, or play dead?

The answer, according to new guidance from the UK's National Counter Terrorism Security Office (Nactso), is to run, or hide behind "substantial brickwork" or "heavy reinforced walls."

Which in the cold light of day, could sound pretty intuitive. Except, for some of the people caught up in the Paris attacks on Friday, it wasn't.

The new guidance has been released after some of those at the Bataclan Music Hall reportedly lay down and remained still, while terrorists indiscriminately fired at the crowd.

Of the 129 people who lost their lives in the Paris attacks, 89 were music fans who had gone to see band "Eagles of Death Metal" perform.

If you do find yourself in the middle of attack, the report advises following three principles:

1.) Run:

Identify the safest route and escape if you can. Insist others come with you, and leave belongings behind.

2.) Hide:

If you can't run, then hide -- try and find a secure hiding place, ideally behind heavily reinforced walls.
And remember that bullets can travel through glass, wood, brick, and metal. Also make sure that mobile phones are turned to silent.

3.) Tell:

Once you're able to, call the police and give them as much information as possible -- where are the suspects and what do they look like? How many people remain inside the building?

Norton is $85 per annum & it gives me 3 licenses.

I give away the other 2 licenses to my friends.

That's the same as $28.33 each.

You cheapskate - get a proper anti-virus program.

Don't ever post malicious links again -

how many posters here have had their computers wrecked because of you?

Apologise & self ban for 48 hours.

Norton has you by the short and curlies. There is no longer a real threat from a COMPUTER VIRUS, like there used to be.  It is now MALWARE or TRACKING etc which most Anti Virus programs don't cover.

Your best bet is to:

1. Not visit porn sites
2. Never click on a link to anything (including the ones Aussie posts here)
3. Never tell anyone your "real name" on the Net, including Facebook.

Good advice.

I used to use AVG  & also Nod 32  & they were OK but not great.
You get what you pay for.

Unfortunately no anti-virus system is perfect so there is always
a chance of getting some kind of malware.

One thing is for sure - never click on any of Greggy's links.
I bet his computer is full of spyware & other garbage.

He should download McAfee or Norton & do a free scan.
IO bit Malware fighter is good too for a free scan.

It's par for the course - cheapskates giving out links to infected  websites.

cheers

Norton costs $85 & Greggy is too tight to pay that.
