Another 3 day heat wave about to hit Sydney.

http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/early-week-heatwave-to-remain/5389957...

Quote:
A brief blast of summerlike heat will traverse eastern Australia early this week, bringing well above-average temperatures to areas from Newcastle to Canberra. A cold front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, ending the heat by Wednesday.

This hot spell across across eastern Australia will be the third shot of much above-average conditions across the region in the past month. The first two bursts of heat caused temperatures to soar to over 38 C (100 F) in Sydney. Temperature peaked at 43 C (109 F) on November 20.

In your case they will be all season blasts from the lower South.

El Nino means that the east coast of Australia is to receive a colder ocean current. Whilst the west coast of South America receives a warmer current. You would probably note that Townsville, typically averaging 1200mm of rain each year, has about 300mm of rain total for the year to November. I live in Rockhampton, and we are up to about 600 to 700mm. Normally, we have these occasional storms for this time of year, when it would rain fairly heavily during these storms. But because of the colder ocean currents, the storms are not very strong, and have not amount of rainfall that could cool us down. Today, yesterday, and probably the day before that, we have been experiencing over 35 degree temperatures (maximum of 40) for this week. I have not felt at all comfortable. Especially seeing that I have to wear long pants as part of my work uniform.

With the El Nino breaking down, we should see some normality come to east coast Australia. I see no reason why we could have a bumper (albeit late) start to the cyclone season. Doubt that I will see an average rainfall to get the grass growing again for this year. May have to wait until next year.

Hot, hot hot. Global warming? Does this portend a long hot summer to March?

SA swelters through heatwave as fire crews remain on high alert

SA bushfire insurance claims reach $75 million

South Australians have endured one of the state's hottest starts to summer with temperatures reaching the high 30s and low 40s.

Fire crews remain on high alert as the heatwave, which is expected to continue until Monday, grips the state.

Total fire bans are in place for six districts, with extreme fire danger forecast for the West Coast.

By early afternoon Adelaide had reached 39.5 degrees Celsius, while towns in Flinders, Mid North, North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral areas recorded temperatures in the lows 40s.

At 2:30pm Ceduna hit 45.3C.

Unseasonable cold and wet hits southwest WA

Ben McBurney, Sunday December 6, 2015 - 12:20 EDT

A slow-moving low pressure system has brought unusual summer weather to WA's southwest, with some places seeing their coldest December day in over 50 years and many already receiving more than their monthly average rainfall.

The low, which was fed by warm seas in the Indian Ocean, moved over the region on Saturday, bringing an end to the run of sunny and balmy weekends seen during November.

Residents instead had to endure a wet and windy weekend with weather more typical of August than December enticing winter clothes from the cupboard.

Perth only managed to reach 19 degrees on Saturday, 10 degrees below average and its coldest December day since 1961. Pearce also struggled to record 19 degrees, its coldest December day in 38 years of records.

On top of Friday's rain, many areas experienced further showers on Saturday, with some places in the region already reaching their December average. Albany received 40mm, more than its entire monthly average in just 24 hours and its wettest December day since 1960. Further east under thunderstorms, Lake Grace collected a massive 75mm, including 11mm in just 10 minutes.

As the low moves east today, showers will gradually clear the region, lingering about the southern coast until Monday or Tuesday.

More typical summer weather will quickly return, as temperatures push into the 30s by late next week and into the weekend.
