My guess from the start was that someone tried to check to make sure that it was correct and because the Island they had didn't exist it wasn't listed. They then assumed that it had to be the other one and that the spelling they had transcribed was not originally correct.

That surely is very credible but it adds to the importance that Bishop make deeper enquiries to ensure she had the right Island.
