Britain already has one.

Brittan has a mess of a broadband system that's most productive feature is its ability to generate complaints.

I don't know what they are currently doing but the fact remains that they made their decisions in 2007 based of the technology of that time and it has left them in a terrible mess.

You claimed China has 1G internet. Where exactly? Much of china outside of the cities is yet to get the telephone and sealed roads.

Having just spent 3 weeks in the country, Tianjin to Guilin & everything in between, as usual our asian neighbours are so far ahead of us technology wise it is pitiful.

Sure you are correct, some places have no phone or sealed roads, they would be the upper northern China on the border of Mongolia.

Much like Gingerah WA 6725

So they get internet that is highly censored and a lack of person freedom.  I'd rather live here and have dial-up before that.

Once again you show your stupidity, Im in China right now yet have no problem accessing this site and many others, so much for highly censored.
I live in hope that one day you will be able to open your mouth without putting both feet in as you so often do.
Strange how everybody else can see the stupid NBN the Libs have saddled us with but not you.
You really are pathetic the  way you support this Liberal fiasco.

Okay... so your definition of 'uncensored' is access this site?  Try googling Tianamen squaare and see where you end up.

You would be the first ignoramus ever to say that China's internet is not censored.

Your comprehension is so pitifully poor
where did anybody say that Chinas Internet is not censored?

Okay... so your definition of 'uncensored' is access this site? Why don't you include the full quote?

Smithy mentioned using a VPn , yes for a few sites, Google, Youtube, Facebook these three are the only sites I cant access with my 1G internet connection in China.

Paved roads, strange that's all I drove on during a recent road trip from Zhengzhou to Southern China.

Personal freedom, as Smithy said never felt safer in any country in the world, I can walk anywhere and never feel threatened.
Maybe you need to stop reading propaganda and get out in the real world.

Okay so in today's lesson china has no internet censorship and more freedom than anywhere else in the world.

No that's no where near the lesson or even what has been said.

Are you from S.A?

We had a poster a while back from there with the same comprehension problems as yourself, do you think its the education system?

It is however what you have been saying. You apparently have absolutely no problem with censorship or the lack of freedom.

You could at least give these notions some weak lipservice.

Books and websites are banned in Australia, do you classify this as censorship or an infringement of our freedoms?

Again the point is we are getting a substandard internet service, or in your mind does this not matter?

What ones?   handful of child porn sites?

Get over yourself.

Why are people still hung up on a portion of NBNCo being sold?

The original Labor plan was to sell off 50% anyway.

Lefties supported the 50% plan in 2007 so why do you have your knickers in a knot now?

The three biggest sites in the world are blocked?  And what do these sites have in common?  FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.

Your concept of freedom is limited to simply what affects you and nothing more.  You can be bought sold and packaged by a fast internet connection?  That's all it takes?  How shallow are you?

Because it was 50% of an adequate service, much like Telstra in the 80's was to phone-lines.

A fully functioning FTTH broadband network

Not some cobbled together piece of crap for the sake of political bastardry.

There are 67 subscribers to FTTN.

In an area where new copper was rolled out after flood. Plenty of spare lines, little noise etc.

And the Chinese have their own alternatives, renren, weibo & Youku-Tudou as for your freedom of expression crap, had you ever been further than Adelaide you would know our Asian neighbours have no problem expressing themselves.

Your cold war world view is debunked by anyone who has travelled.

Yes yes the chinese government spy, torture & deny personal freedom to those they consider enemies.

Exactly how is that different from your holy grail of the USA?

I was never happy that Labor was going to privatise it. But I am a realist: the bloody Libs would just flog it off to some of their mates who would jack up prices and cut services, so a better way of privatising would be better of the two evils.

A natural monopoly should not be privatised.

Hilarious, Mal on the 7.30 Report last night:

A part of last night’s 7.30 Report that did not attract attention.

Leigh Sales asked Mal about the NBN. He didn’t like that much. He told lies.

Quote:
LEIGH SALES: Many people in that sector and other sectors would tell you that the most critical thing for their business these days is a speedy internet. So why then do you continue to back a broadband network that relies on a decrepit copper network?

MALCOLM TURNBULL: Why do – but that is just – with great respect, that is just completely wrong. I mean, I …

LEIGH SALES: It relies on copper to get from the node to the house and that copper network’s old.

MALCOLM TURNBULL: Yeah. But it doesn’t matter whether it’s old or young as long as it works. We are – under the approach we are taking to the NBN, we will get the network completed six to eight years sooner than it would be under Labor’s proposed method and $30 billion cheaper or at less expense to the Government, which makes broadband more affordable. I mean, it is remarkable – it doesn’t matter how many facts are presented by the company on this issue, we still get the same – we still get the same assertions …

LEIGH SALES: But the company – but a leak of – I don’t want to get bogged down in NBN ’cause I want to get through a lot, …

MALCOLM TURNBULL: No, I really don’t.

LEIGH SALES: … but there’s a leak of internal NBN documents to The Australian newspaper showing that the copper network is in such poor shape that the company has to spend 10-fold what it had planned to spend to whip it into shape.

MALCOLM TURNBULL: Well that’s simply not true

http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2015/s4367704.htm

“But it doesn’t matter whether it’s old or young as long as it works.”
What a lying POS!

Because of the state of the copper speed will be reduced by the need to resend packets—noisy lines due to dry joints and all the other ills of the Telstra network. The copper is too thin for high speed broadband, .6mm diameter wiring is needed, Telstra copper is much less than that.

NBN Co knew the copper wasn’t up to scratch so underprovisioned the nodes with fibre. Luck to get much above 5mbps in peak times: that is NOT high speed broadband needless to say.

“we will get the network completed six to eight years sooner than it would be under Labor’s proposed method and $30 billion cheaper ” How can he spew those lines when we know the MTM nonsense will take longer and cost more than FTTH? The cost of copper to be re-run wakes your ears bleed!
