ARE THERE ANY FTTN SUBSCRIBERS ANYWHERE IN AUSTRALIA YET?

There are 67 subscribers to FTTN.

In an area where new copper was rolled out after flood. Plenty of spare lines, little noise etc.

On the central coast there are thousands being forced to connect to it, its not optional if you want a phone connection.

Okay so in today's lesson china has no internet censorship and more freedom than anywhere else in the world.

No that's no where near the lesson or even what has been said.

Are you from S.A?

We had a poster a while back from there with the same comprehension problems as yourself, do you think its the education system?

It is however what you have been saying. You apparently have absolutely no problem with censorship or the lack of freedom.

You could at least give these notions some weak lipservice.

Apart from to deflect from the topic what does censorship have to do with anything, we are trying for a good dose of it here too.

Hilarious, Mal on the 7.30 Report last night:

A part of last night’s 7.30 Report that did not attract attention.

Leigh Sales asked Mal about the NBN. He didn’t like that much. He told lies.

Quote:
LEIGH SALES: Many people in that sector and other sectors would tell you that the most critical thing for their business these days is a speedy internet. So why then do you continue to back a broadband network that relies on a decrepit copper network?

MALCOLM TURNBULL: Why do – but that is just – with great respect, that is just completely wrong. I mean, I …

LEIGH SALES: It relies on copper to get from the node to the house and that copper network’s old.

MALCOLM TURNBULL: Yeah. But it doesn’t matter whether it’s old or young as long as it works. We are – under the approach we are taking to the NBN, we will get the network completed six to eight years sooner than it would be under Labor’s proposed method and $30 billion cheaper or at less expense to the Government, which makes broadband more affordable. I mean, it is remarkable – it doesn’t matter how many facts are presented by the company on this issue, we still get the same – we still get the same assertions …

LEIGH SALES: But the company – but a leak of – I don’t want to get bogged down in NBN ’cause I want to get through a lot, …

MALCOLM TURNBULL: No, I really don’t.

LEIGH SALES: … but there’s a leak of internal NBN documents to The Australian newspaper showing that the copper network is in such poor shape that the company has to spend 10-fold what it had planned to spend to whip it into shape.

MALCOLM TURNBULL: Well that’s simply not true

http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2015/s4367704.htm

“But it doesn’t matter whether it’s old or young as long as it works.”
What a lying POS!

Because of the state of the copper speed will be reduced by the need to resend packets—noisy lines due to dry joints and all the other ills of the Telstra network. The copper is too thin for high speed broadband, .6mm diameter wiring is needed, Telstra copper is much less than that.

NBN Co knew the copper wasn’t up to scratch so underprovisioned the nodes with fibre. Luck to get much above 5mbps in peak times: that is NOT high speed broadband needless to say.

“we will get the network completed six to eight years sooner than it would be under Labor’s proposed method and $30 billion cheaper ” How can he spew those lines when we know the MTM nonsense will take longer and cost more than FTTH? The cost of copper to be re-run wakes your ears bleed!

Yeh, he is not very clever on his feet ol' mal!

go business confidence: hey, malcolm--> why don't you do a little hop and pretend we're all children just waiting to be led around by a shill smile and good diction.

I can finally say - I told you so on the nbn.

Every single issue that was highlighted is coming home to roost.

Copper/hfc is not fit for purpose.

It's costing more to buy and upgrade the network.

Maintenance is expensive.

They should admit they were wrong and go back to ftth.

Exactly: sales should have pursued the NBN question as it absolutely annihilates Turnbull every time and every lib knows it.

Every single liberal voter in the country is ashamed of copper internet: EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!

OK, didn’t know so many are supposed to get onto it.

If it comes here (out of contract) I will tell them to shove their phone and not-so-broadband and go mobile for both. 3G should be cheap and fast about now.

FTTdP (fibre to the distribution point) is what we will probably end up with.

It's cheaper than FTTN as it doesn't need nodes and removes the issues with copper maintenance.

It will also provide better speeds than FTTN.

It's not as good as FTTH but is a hell of a lot better than FTTN.

The three biggest sites in the world are blocked?  And what do these sites have in common?  FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.

And the Chinese have their own alternatives, renren, weibo & Youku-Tudou as for your freedom of expression crap, had you ever been further than Adelaide you would know our Asian neighbours have no problem expressing themselves.

Your cold war world view is debunked by anyone who has travelled.

Yes yes the chinese government spy, torture & deny personal freedom to those they consider enemies.

Exactly how is that different from your holy grail of the USA?

Let us all know if it is FTTN or FTTH. my understanding is that FTTN isnt even being rolled out yet and still being worked on.  Thats why I am so entertained by all the supposed complaints about FTTN service before it is even rolled out.

67 added in 2 years - what progress!

FTTN is outdated technology that costs more than FTTH to implement and maintain.

Awesome for you then!  You can pay $10/Gb on 3G/4G.  NBN can get you 500Gb for $100

This is why everyone laughs at you.  You are a twit.

Which is nonsense but of course you NBN-freaks are well known for lying. almost HALF the cost of FTTH is wiring up the home. FTTN has no such cost coz its already wired.

Stop being disingenuous.

The copper network is unusable for high speed broadband, they are already rolling out new copper. Also maintenance costs for FTTN are astronomical, while Fiber can last over a century with essentially no degradation.

FTTN costs more, it's basically useless (a theoretical 1mbps speed increase from ADSL2+) and it has a far shorter lifespan (estimated in need of replacing before the NBN is even planned finished).

FTTN is the biggest infrastructure disaster this country has ever seen. I had a truck laying out fiber down my goddamn street in 2013 to be hooked up by the end of that year, only a few houses on my street have it while i'm not even on the FTTN rollout post 2018.
