The first term was taken up by fighting the GFC and starting to reduce the infrastructure deficit.

The useless Libs have cut actual infrastructure projects so they can run a campaign saying how much infrastructure they are building! Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes  Cheesy Cheesy

Mining clearly has not been all that good for Australia, but the few who gain material wealth clearly had more democratic rights than the rest of us who have to deal with their mess left over.

Those three nasty brown coal mines were never art of the mining boom genius, they only existed to feed their brown filth into Victoria's power grid, not to export or make money.

In coal mining term they are no better than a eat bog, much like the rest of victoria.

Maybe being totally ignorant works like a charm with your fellow inbred socialist, but in the real world not so much. This country has earned billions out of our mining; we produce 50% of the world steel making coal, try stopping that and see how things turn out, einstein.

Fkkk me you people are beyond stupid.

This country has earned billions out of our mining;

The mostly foreign mining companies have earned billions out of mining ?

The Australian government don't mine anything except for our bank accounts.

Like fortescue metals, BHP, and hancock prosecting and the countless small and medium enterprises all either privately own by Australians or listed on the Australian stock exchange.

Not every mining company is foreign, and the government makes money out of mining without actually being the miner.

So thanks for reinforcing my opinion.

It doesn't take much to climb out of you cesspool of ignorance.

The mining companies profit margins are not in the billions, not by a longs short, god please tell be you know the difference between gross and net profit and how the outgoings of wages, capital expenditure, maintenance all affect those 'billions'.

In one breath we are earning billions and the next its explaining why it was really a loss ? Go figure, then there is the tax concessions.

Is english not your first language.

My post stated the COUNTRY earned billions, you tried to lie and make out is was foreign miners, which it was not.

Fkkk a six yr old can keep up with this conversation what is your problem.

Like I said I don't you to reinforce how cretinous you socialists are, we are well aware.

They were part of the mining industry though. Nice attempt to deflect, but mining in mining, one would think with your high end genius you would have realise that.

Don't bother arguing minutia. That's just childish.

Irrelevent, they're still mining and, as it happens have still left a mess for someone else (you and I paying taxes that is) to clean up. Does it really matter what they dug up? Seriously?

That's just incorrect abuse, perhaps a hint there that you have no reasonable arguments to present. When you decide to not be abusive I am more than happy to have a debate with you, this is just rubbish though.

In their first term after taking office from Howard, the ALP had the run of the place with support from the Greens and Independents. They had ample time to make any changes they wanted. They could've abolished the GST if they'd wanted to.

The country does not export mined material - the mining companies do many of which are not Australian or wholly Australian.

Australia only benefits indirectly, at best.

Several reasons:

- They didn't have the political courage to end the rorting.

- GFC hit and they couldn't make necessary cuts without possibly hurting consumer spending.

- They had no intention of looking at those cuts to begin with and thought they could find other revenue streams.

I would think it was elements of all of these.

No government has the courage to wind back tax cuts. Though this is the obvious and best easiest solution.

In the first term it with the GFC and so many other things happening it was not obviously apparent that it was the cause of the problem.

The tax cuts were reliant on the booming economy, many made the assumption that when the GFC was tamed that the boom would re start. Had this occurred then the government income would have continued to cover the unaffordable tax cuts. Unfortunately Australia returned to a more normal economic level aligned with the long term averages. The tax cuts were based on an economic boom which had ended. This was not well understood till after 2010 at the earliest.

Ever since every government have been looking to cut expenditure and raise money in other ways.

Cuts to health education etc is the Libs attempt and now raising the GST etc. This has all been an attempt to cover up the errors made by Howard and Costello.

funny way to look at things..

and 50/ 50 chance means they [the taxpayer] have a good chance of NOT PAYING..

of course the doom and gloom party will see it a lost cause...even though they didnt see the pinkbatts as a lost cause... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes...remember the clean up.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

the Mines will have to do the RIGHT THING>...

even if it ends up 50 50 paying....because it was the country the WHOLE COUNTRY including lefties who benefited from the mines...

we are never grateful for anything....

we never applaud something that bloody fed us for years....yet when it comes to something like this.. some jump in with claws exposed to hold them accountable....and even jail them, if they had their way...what an amazing way to view the world and your country..
