Mining clearly has not been all that good for Australia, but the few who gain material wealth clearly had more democratic rights than the rest of us who have to deal with their mess left over.

funny way to look at things..

and 50/ 50 chance means they [the taxpayer] have a good chance of NOT PAYING..

of course the doom and gloom party will see it a lost cause...even though they didnt see the pinkbatts as a lost cause... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes...remember the clean up.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

the Mines will have to do the RIGHT THING>...

even if it ends up 50 50 paying....because it was the country the WHOLE COUNTRY including lefties who benefited from the mines...

we are never grateful for anything....

we never applaud something that bloody fed us for years....yet when it comes to something like this.. some jump in with claws exposed to hold them accountable....and even jail them, if they had their way...what an amazing way to view the world and your country..

Jesus, nice rant.

Mining never fed me, at all. Personally I am grateful for a great many things, unfortunately none of them have been provided directly or indirectly by a politician or a mining magnate. Hence, I have nothing to be grateful to them for.

Now as to this 50/50 chance thing, part of the agreement that mining interests signed onto was to restore the local area... That was all well and good to sign whilst things were booming, but now it might be a 50/50 problem. You can be happy for people to welch on their agreement and cause you to payout for their irresponsibility all you like, but not me.

REALLY????>..

so bugger off then... you think the measly bit you pay in tax is what is keeping this country going.. well bully for you..

you would be the only one  that thinks that...but then you are so narcissistic.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

no one would be surprised you have this deluded outlook.

the govt does nothing for YOU..

If you receive any government welfare or any services, they are paid in a significant way from mining revenues.

Then how stupid was it to pork barrel on the back of mining revenues???

dont forget mining was riding high along with the govt of the day... and the pinkbatts was all about keeping  construction going and employment figures down..

Why should we be thankful to the mining industry?

Honestly? It's not like Mining is exactly the hardest, most innovative industry on earth. Blow up giant hole, sift out ore, send it overseas for refining and manufacture.

I'm actually incredibly surprised Australia's mining industry isn't Nationalized. It's not like the Aussie Government couldn't have fronted the capital for it and brought over overseas experts.

The fact is, those resources are owned in common by all of the Australian people and our Governments Labor and Liberal have allowed the complete raping of our natural wealth for private mostly international interests, now those multinational corporations, after being given incredibly generous access to our resources are telling us to clean up the mess.

This is why I wonder why you right wingers even pretend you are nationalists when it's clear you all hate Australia. Why do you want INTERNATIONAL corporations to vandalize this country then make us clean it up? One of Australia's biggest assets is it's beautiful, unique environment and yet you're fine with organizations from other countries raping our land then forcing us to clean up afterwards.

I will never, ever understand this sycophancy. That land is your land too, you should be proud of Australia's stunning environment, you should not allow Indian, British, Chinese or American buggerheads smash up our land and tell US to clean up after them. Hell even if it was an Australian company I would be outraged.

Private gains, public losses.

No single person or government put all the eggs in the resource sector. They just did all the hard work while lazy buggers like you stood around and didnt develop any other products, services or industries. YOU ARE TO BLAME

What a failure the GST has been.

It survived one Liberal government before needing to be increased by 50%, it has failed beyond the greatest pessimists expectation. Howard and Costello told us that this would hold us in a strong position for the next 100 years.

Mining not hard?  Seriously, are you really that incredibly stupid? While the answer to that is more obvious than the envy that drips off every word, mining is a HIGH-TECH industry.  The majority of this beauty you claim is out in the donga where you will never see it or miss it.

But hand over the trillion dollars and the mining industry will leave you in peace... and poverty. Of course as a communist, poverty IS the goal, right?  Everyone equal. Everyone poor.

Like Labor did before the mining crash?

Exactly....but blaming only one side of politics shows a complete lack of credibility....So do you think miners should have to clean up the mess they have made in accordance with their licencing agreement Maria or should taxpayers foot the bill....Alternatively should the mines just be left as they are???

i actually do and whats more, the vast majority DO. In case you didnt read the details, the problem is that some of these sites belong to companies that are bankrupt or headed there.  You can't get blood out of a stone. Most mining sites are properly rehabilitated.

Why? Why shouldn't they have paid more? The effective tax rate mining companies pay is tiny. The profits massive.

Quote:
Mining not hard?  Seriously, are you really that incredibly stupid? While the answer to that is more obvious than the envy that drips off every word, mining is a HIGH-TECH industry.

No, mining isn't hard, yes it's a high tech industry, but that doesn't make it hard, another reason it's so high tech is it brings in insane amount of money allowing for mining companies to push for mass automation. Mining isn't rocket science. There is no reason the Australian Government couldn't fronted capital and created it's own nationalized corporations and hired it's own experts and carried out it's own research and development when it comes to mining.

Why do international interests have a right to Australia's common wealth and rip us off?

Do you ever have anything resembling a point that isn't senile ranting?

Honestly, why are you so sycophantic to the rich, it's really bizarre. A rich person could rape a child and I think you would try justify it in some bizarre way.
