Going by the examples of smokers I have known, they could be made to line up in their underwear in the cold to buy cigarettes and they would still do it.

The truth is actually diametrically-opposite to your claim.

But then, most of your claims are diametrically-opposed to the facts.

Anyone who can seriously think that Gillard was worse than Abbott really IS
too un-informed to be allowed anywhere near a polling booth.

Politics (not only conservative capitalism, but ALL political systems) should be
a mandatory subject for ALL high-school students, and the pass-mark should
be around 80%. Fail, and you're automatically excluded from the electoral roll.

On the whole the Gillard government was reasonably good.

Your loyalty to Abbott is badly exposed in statements like this, his absolute failure bypassed you completely.

It's a good point. Do you know of any studies that have research the effectiveness of this policy? I support it even if it doesnt work.

I was a smoker and memories of the stupid things I did at times to get cigarettes make me squirm now. Longy, the studies are there, Google is your friend.
