I travel frequently in in Asia, what about you? Any actual real life experience to bring to the table>? In some states, this means you can bypass the exams and bribes you often have to pay, and that's important. A public service job in India is highly prized. It can be far more important than your caste.

What Indians tend to say today is that, yes, caste is no longer relevant, but yes, it is still relevant. Like everything in India, caste is a riddle you'll never get a straight answer to.

But rife? As relevant as it ever was?

You only need to go back to the days of brides burning themselves to death on their husbands' funeral pyres to know that caste is not what it was.

Nothing in India changes, but nothing stays the same. Pretending you know the answer to these things is hubris of the highest order.

Even Indians will tell you that.

a rickshaw is pulled by a human. they havent been in existence in india for some time. According to Wikipedia the name for the motorised ones is Auto rickshaw, but I never heard them referred to as rickshaws, only taxis, I confirmed this with my wife, she never heard them referred to as rickshaws either as you and Karnal both presumed when you googled it Aussie. You make me laugh though. Why the need to lie to strangers on the internet about your experiences? And who really cares if someone doesnt pay attention to the local name for the transport? Inferiority complex? every time you do this you get busted. Why continue? I never lie about my life experience, you cant trip me up. Keep going though. Quite funny. No starving people in the streets in india, thats hilarious. Anyone doing a simple google for travellers recently there will see the absurdity of that claim, along with the claim which I also just busted that caste is now irrelevant in india. You are a fraud Aussie, and so is the booze riddled karnal, admittedly Karnal is a far better googler than you but still no match.
