I think you've worked in law as much as I've worked in porn. Big fat zilch. Just a trumped up net hero who just can't get over the fact that people pay more attention to a  poof like Alan Jones or a fascist like Andrew Bolt that an undiscovered genius cab driver from the Gold Coast

I must be missing something....*what is badly worded?

*That section of the Code establishing the offence.

It seems to present a sentencing Judge with only two options.  15 years of imprisonment, or anything/something short of imprisonment, and that is absurd, and surely could not be an intended outcome.

Reads to me that the prisoner is sentenced and the judge makes an order that he/she must serve 80% of the sentence (so for 10 year sentence, would have to serve 8yrs); or 15 years....WHICHEVER IS THE LESSER.......so in this case, he/she could be out in 8 years.

The ironic part about comment like that, and those here, calling for people to be strung up, is that it's only likely to give their lawyers grounds to complain that they won't be able to get a fair trial.

I hope not -

Then perhaps it's not wise to pre-judge them.

Wise, given some of the poo being spoken about what is an appropriate punishment.

Sodomy? Really?

Next we'll be lopping off limbs and beheading evil-doers.

Wise to protect these thugs?

Of course. Everyone gets protection, until they have had due process, and are sentenced under the law.

Or would you rather we turn them over to you, to be stoned on the nearest corner, without trial?

Don't worry. We're used to them. Hence why we ignore them.

Me, too - I misread it, too....

So it's possible to get a few months in prison for killing someone......

I thought the aim was to be tough on these things, but it now seems that the whole deal is open-ended with no minimum sentence.... I thought the call was for a minimum ten years....

Typical gutless politicians.... all piss and wind and no balls....

Which is why you get people calling for the death penalty - because our judges are too often useless and give minimal sentences to people for violent crimes.

IMO a fair sentence would be 15 years, plus financial restitution to the family for the rest of this guy's life.
