Nick Ross has apparently uncovered a lot of corruption and collusion between the Libs and Telstra and others on the NBN and is in the process of putting together and writing his big expose. Hopefully when it drops the media won't ignore it like it does 99% of NBN stories.
AN ABC journalist has been disciplined by the broadcaster's management over concerns that his online posts about the National Broadband Network failed to meet its "standards of objective journalism".
Nick Ross, who edits a forum on the ABC website that focuses on technology and games issues, has written a series of favourable articles about the NBN recently.
He has been highly critical of the Coalition's opposition to the $37.4 billion project.
An ABC spokeswoman said Mr Ross had "been reminded of the need to ensure that his work in this area is in keeping with ABC policies".
But the spokeswoman did not clarify whether Mr Ross had been specifically told by ABC management not to post any further blogs about the NBN
She said Mr Ross did not report on the NBN or any other technology issues for ABC News; rather, he is the editor of a specialist online forum covering technology and games issues.
"In that context, he has written a series of articles on the NBN, providing analysis and comment based on his specialist expertise," the spokeswoman said.
"Of course, as with all other ABC personnel, he is required to follow editorial policies, which require comment and analysis to be based on professional expertise and demonstrable evidence and not simply on personal opinion."
In an article for The Australian's opinion page today, Kevin Morgan, who served on Kim Beazley's ministerial committee on telecom reform on behalf of the ACTU and is an independent telecom consultant, has highlighted a string of anti-Coalition blog posts written by Mr Ross and published on the ABC website.
In one blog on January 23, Mr Ross actively spruiks for the NBN against the Coalition's policy. "Under the heading 'politics' in his January 23 blog on the ABC technology website, Ross makes no bones about his objective -- 'With it being an election year, there is a great deal to be done in informing the public about the current NBN policy and the consequences of ditching it in favour of a Coalition alternative'," Mr Morgan writes.
Mr Ross did not respond to questions from The Australian.
