what is Neonicotinoids.. ok its a chemical.. in which case why doesnt it come under the epa.... why doesnt it?.. we seem to have double standards on so many things.....I am sorry to hear this its a shocker..

you know we have an enormous amount of trees and blossom in Canberra but you hardly ever see a bee....

I have often wondered about that?..... in England we had the beautiful bumble bees..we dont have them here do we??...

I would have to disagree with you there cods re Canberra

I have a Lemon tree that had a mass of flowers in spring I think it was, covered in bees including the tiny native ones, same for my Photinia hedge

Those big fat velvet bumblebees are rare in Queensland.
I have seen a few in the past few years, we have lots of bee/bird attracting plants.

Maybe they are not so suited to the climate here?

More propaganda from a Chemical Company..

And yet you didn't query the conclusion of The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) .

Or are they shills for the chemical companies?

the only place BumbleBees are in Australia is in Tasmania..

they believe that they were illegally brought into the country..

Bumblebees compete with local pollinators and also honey bees and because they are bigger they can muscle in on the goodies...

it also leaves less food for native birds...

if you want to see more bees in your garden... plant more BEE FRIENDLY plants..

they love lavender and hebe bushes.. especially French Lavender,.. sun flowers, roses, poppies, lemon trees, bluebells and many spring flowers

Now dont get a bee in your bonnet cods

I am not disputing bee numbers are down but they are still around in some numbers at my place, I do know a bloke down the hill has a couple of hives so that might explain it.

your French Lender only grows into a small bush as does Lavender Grosso

......................................

these guys have been fighting on the bees behalf for a number of years now

Hey Andrew,
You're part of a SumOfUs community that has done so much for the bees -- and the security of our food supply. Because of the pressure from SumOfUs members, one of the biggest home and garden supply stores has taken "neonic" pesticides off its shelves. Because of people-power, we were able to shake up Bayer's annual general meeting in Cologne, Germany two years running. We're supporting a vital legal battle to keep bee-killing pesticides banned in the Europe, while trying to spread the ban on the same chemicals in other parts of the world. SumOfUs members are helping to lead the fight to save the bees all over the planet.
Your support is crucial now. Our decision-makers need to see the vital research done by Jonathan Lundgren and his peers so they can finally ban these pesticides for good. We simply can't afford to let big corporations shut down researchers.

Not just BAYER

Monsanto & Du Pont as well.

Plus there is the very real threat of the natural bee killer

the parasite Veroa Destructor which is as close as Papua New Guinea.

And I would agree ... there seem to be less bees than there used to be ...

taking into consideration that all commercial honey bees are not "native" to Australia anyway.
