And, make no mistake, a 500 kg muscular animal can and will kill you if you dont establish correct training
(50 people in australia in the last 5 years).
Geez, they're more dangerous than pit bulls!
Does anyone really need a horse?
This is where people will come in and say a pet cow or a pet snail is just as good.
No animal is as loyal or wants to work in a partnership with humans as much as a horse
alyssia burton was on drugs til she found this guy
Are you saying a HORSE is a man's best friend?
I always thought it was a DOG.
Dogs are the "natural" best friend of man
We are both predators and speak the same language.
training dogs is intuitive and easy.
Horses are prey animals.
Their natural reaction to humans is fear.
Their natural reaction is to seek comfort with a good leader and then totally co operate with him.
If you can overcome the fear by showing you are not a threat AND you can become a good leader, then the horse will do whatever you want, once he trusts you.
I had a neighbours horse go thru a fence and cut its legs very badly.
The vet (an old fellow with good skills) was able to develop rapport with this animal in 3 minutes (simply by being "present" and having "calm energy").
he then inserted 20 stitches, some deep , with no aneasthetic and the horse stood perfectly still and even nuzzled into him.
This would probably not be possible with a dog.
They are ultra ultra sensitive (and correct always) in their assessment of humans.
If you are an asssshole .
if you are a wimp
if their is any character flaw in you, they will find it out and you will be in a whole world of pain.
they are far less forgiving of human flaws then a dog, but far better partners and more loyal partners then a dog if you get the emotions right.
Bonding with a dog is for simpletons.
You will really have to get your own mental state "right " to bond with a horse
