Those derivatives are scary.

They threaten to bring down the world's economy.

Example:

I've heard that most gold is not real but on paper.

I can never understand all the hype about gold...

its a looking at thing...its nice to LOOK AT...

you cant make a dress out of it...you cant eat it...you cant make machinery out of it...for it to be any use it need additives to make it stronger..

so why the hype....at least diamonds have a secondary use....why is gold still a currency in this day and age bobs?? you seem to know a bit about this....its beautiful and makes one feel special....but for most of us we cant tell 9ct from 24 ct.. or even real gold from fake gold...

so is it a delusion and we are being hoodwinked by who ever controls the world currency

Gold is valuable because of all the elemnts, it is the only one to tick all these boxes:

solid
non reactive
stable
identifiable
relatively easy to extract and process
quite, but not too rare.

All are necessary for a viable currency.

Yes, and yes.

However, that's the way currency "works".

Yes thats true, basically they write you an iou and if you want your actual gold they go and buy some for you and send it to you, the problem with this is the same problem that the banks have when everyone decides to draw their money out on the same day, there isn't actually enough gold (or money) to go around so the whole system collapses.

Its basically just another financial scam aided and abetted by incompetent government in order to keep the crazy capitalist pyramid scheme going.  Smiley

Yes & not even the Yanks - the most powerful country in the world
could give Germany it's gold back.

Why? -  they don't have it -

thieves have stolen it.
