Didn't some famous guy say "life is suffering?"

It certainly is. The reason we form communities is an attempt to alleviate some of that suffering, not enhance it.

Yes, maybe I'm an optimist, but I reckon there is less suffering now than in any other time.

according to Marla, she is facing war, poverty and austerity on a massive scale.
Forget all the donuts and coke she eats, the netflix, the air con, spotify and mexicans to trim her hedges, america today is hell on earth.
Oh how Marla wishes she could go back to a happier time. That little kid in Schindlers List , hiding up to his neck in the shiit pit...that little fella had it so good compared to Marla  Wink

There is a whole philosophy based on that belief, it is called existentialism. Basically life is sh1t, then you die.

Not much of a follower of that philosophy myself, but it should be a bit challenging otherwise it would be pretty boring and dull.

The bookend quote of that existential quip about life being suffering is another existentialist bon mot, "You remember all we were told about the torture-chambers, the fire and brimstone, the "burning Marl(a)." Old wives' tales! There's no need for red-hot pokers. HELL IS-OTHER PEOPLE!"

There you have the horizon after the horizon was wiped away at the death of god.

when a cantankerous horse pushes his privilege
of following instead of being even with the lead horse
often the best way to curb his natural instinct to rebel
is to geld him and make him a living beta
that way only the real alpha horses can lead
without all the fuss of competing
with a beta alpha with a head issue
and probably a bigger set of balls  Cool
