His father, Mohamad Mehajer was recently released from jail after serving more than three years for conspiring to cheat and defraud the National Australia Bank of more than $3 million.
In 2012 Mehajer was driving along The Boulevarde at Lidcombe at night in his black Ferrari 612 Scaglietti - which costs more than $500,000 - when he lost control and hit two pedestrians as they stood behind a parked car. He then smashed into a brick wall.
Mother and daughter Teyet La, 40, and Nhu Hua, 68, both spent a month in hospital recovering from multiple breaks and fractures. He was initially convicted of negligent driving but was acquitted on appeal.
Mehajer celebrated his successful appeal against a negligent driving conviction by taking out an advertisement in local paper the Auburn Review in October 2013 under the headline ‘VICTORY over negligent driving’. “Mr Mehajer, following his victory, can now continue ‘making the important contributions to the community, both as a councillor and as a director of a not-for-profit society that works with local communities’ as noted by Magistrate Maloney”, the advertorial stated.
what??? During that unsuccessful election tilt he missed the deadline to declare electoral spending and political donations. This brought him onto the radar of the Election Funding Authority but it did not make any finding against Mr Mehajer nor take any action.
In 2014 a fire burned down a home at Lidcombe owned by Mr Mehajer. The building was empty at the time.
