Blacks go Ape**** at Family Event

The melee broke out minutes after the family fireworks ended about 10pm. About 200 youths of the Apex and Islander 23 gangs stormed Federation Square chanting “f--- the police”, before gang members started beating and punching each other.

Police officers were outnumbered ten to one as they called for reinforcements.

Officers lined up with batons and used pepper spray, but the youths took their battle to Swanston St.

More than 100 gang members of the notorious Apex gang, responsible for a spate of car thefts in the southeast suburbs, swarmed around a police car. Many gang members were of Sudanese descent.

The other gang was made up of Pacific Islander teenagers.

After the Federation square stand off, about 50 gang members marched down the Swanston Street screaming “Apex won”.

A scuffle started around a man in a wheelchair who received minor injuries.

Members of the Islander 23 gang then swarmed to Brunetti’s cafe in City Square.

Patrons who had been sipping coffee moments earlier ran for their lives as gang members started weilding chairs like weapons, throwing them at anyone in range.

The riot comes after rival teenage gangs threatened to turn Moomba into a bloodbath, with thugs warning of a violent confrontation with machetes, baseball bats and knuckle dusters.

Police increased their presence to prevent a violent brawl as thousands of families flocked to the Melbourne festival for fireworks.

Members shared photos of the weapons they were planning to bring to the fight on social media site SnapChat — including baseball bats, poles, knuckle dusters, knives and machetes.

Channel 7 News reported one of the gang members also posted, “Moomba gon be lit aha” — meaning trouble would ensue.

If they are from overseas and they take part in what happened at Moomba, black, white or brindle they should be deported.
