If I was a bookie I'd be offering these odds on them getting a custodial sentence.
Mum 1-20
Midwife 1-2
religious guy 1-1
Opinions?
I can't see anything good coming from the mother going to prison.
If the midwife is given home detention, she can continue with the butchering.
What about the religious 'community leader' ?
"A third offender, senior community leader Shabbir Mohammedbhai Vaziri, was found guilty of acting as an accessory after the fact by directing community members to lie to police about the practice."Doesn't sound worthy of a prison sentence.
What these people need is education.
Don't all people who do a crime need education? Sounds like you want these people not to go to prison Pecca? Why?
Prison is always my last preference.
Apart from people like Bryant
et al, of course.
Prison plays its place in society, and some people definitely belong there.
However, I can't see it being beneficial in the case of these three people.
The old girl is sick, and the judge is confident she won't do it again (yes, I know we've heard that before).
The dude lied. I don't see that as a jailable offence.
The mother will be separated from her children. Never a good thing.
Education. That's the key.
I couldn't care less what sex, religion, or skin colour these people are. I'm looking at it objectively.
Perhaps you should try to do the same thing.
