That is a fair question. I would say that those of humanist, and therefore cultural relativist leanings, hold sway in Western politics. They want to reassure us that Muzlims have the same values that we have. To oppose this, is to be vilified as a Nazi in public. Therefore, it is necessary to announce that opposition in any way left open. It is not very loud, but it is an honest attempt at defending the secular Western state.

It is not Islam, it is a bunch of evil men manipulating uneducated and feeble minded people who are frustrated by years of war and suffering to do their bidding.

The same old con that has been used since human started to think by those in power that used the gods created to manipulate society to their will.
