Depends on your definition of success. Some would argue that the US being much more multicultural than Australia is much more successful than Australia.

its interesting we are so successful we have over 100 serving in Syria....I read where Belgium has 500 which makes them a leader in that field...of multi whatever!.. not sure where we fit in..but the news tonight is 30 have come back...from head chopping...

maybe its our successful multiculturalism..
that brought them back.......

Complete and utter bullshit.

I live in one of the most multicultural suburbs in the country, and the Muslims I know have integrated into our society with no problems.

Do you know any Muslims?

Heard Malcolm on the radio this arvo.

He said we are the most successful multicultural society in the world.

Sounds about right.

Oh you kidder you!!

Dead set true -  you'll hear it again on the news tonight.

If Australia isn't "the most successful multicultural society in the world", which country is?

successful in what way ?

I live in one of the most multicultural suburbs in the country, and I don't have any problems with other cultures.

What problems are you experiencing?

If their cultures are so good then why are they here ?

Who said that their cultures are "so good"?

I missed that bit.

Anyway, what's the answer to my question: what problems are you experiencing?

don't change the subject. Tell us how it is successful ?

You're the one who changed the subject.

You said "If their cultures are so good then why are they here ?", when nobody even mentioned that.

So, why did you change the subject and, what problems are you experiencing because of multiculturalism in Australia?

Multiculturalism makes Australia stronger for two reason: trade and skills.

Australia is a trading nation. It relies on imports and exports. Different cultures facilitate this much more easily.

Australia needs skilled labour to meet the needs of its aging population. There is no monocultural queue of doctors, nurses, engineers and programmers, so we get them from all over the world.

If Australia did not have both of these things - trade and skilled labour, we’d be up sh t creek.

Sorry if this offends.

In light of world events e.g. the latest being the Brussels outrage it is time we had a major rethink on the subject of importing mass number of Muslims?

Is it time we had a referendum on whether we the public want thousands upon thousands of Muslims, imported into this Country in burgeoning numbers? One thing you can take to the bank is that no Syrian refugee family will be moving down the road from the Baird residence, nor anywhere near it. Do as I say not as I do huh?

I think so.

We are creating tomorrows headaches for generations to come. You can bet there are plenty of ISIS sleepers amongst the Syrians thousands that will turn up here with minimal security checks. How can you check out a refugee? Answer...you can't.

It is time we said no? Let them sort their own problems out in their own Country. Why aren't the young men of Syria fighting against ISIS instead of running away?

while we're at it can we have a referendum on the intake of poms?

Ask the Shia how well the Sunnis let them integrate. Giggle  Cheesy

Story time. I was around Campbell St, (Thai Town) one fine Sydney afternoon (ever noticed how I'm always Johnny on the spot in Sydney?) when I noticed a bunch of Thais marching. I thought what are these clowns protesting about.

Then I noticed everyone was wearing either yellow or red shirts. This was right about the time of all the violence in Bangkok. I thought hmm this could be interesting. Then I saw a banner,
'Australian Thais for peace and solidarity'.

Because that's how Thais roll. Smiley

This is how Muslims roll

Sorry Greggy, not all cultures are the same.

What good is a referendum?

We might as well just ask Murdoch what he wants, because thats what the result will be.

Regardless, the government has the ability to control our immigration intake by ethnicity without a referendum, they already do.

Not without breaching their obligations they signed up for with the UN.  Of course, we are free to repudiate that agreement any time we like.  Why don't the Libs do that?

I know for a fact immigration, even for student visas from certain parts of Vietnam is extremely difficult.
