It's not cultural. It's the Taliban.

And we all know how they got their foot in.

Shooting from the hip can be a health hazard.

Fundamentalist Islam trading under whichever local brand it's known by is still a product of the religion of Islam, and the reason Boko haram, al-Qaeda, ISIS and the like haven't been dismissed as heresy by Muslim scholars is precisely because according to the sacred texts of Islam they are NOT practicing heresy.

'Extremist' - yes, but not heretical.

Just another International Socialist outfit like 'Medecins sans Frontieres', the various UN agencies, a score of international 'charity' organisations, the 'Climate Change/Global Warming' juggernaut, etc.

There's no such thing as a 'moderate' Muslim in Islam. You're a Muslim who follows the teachings of Mohammud or you're a kaffir. All one needs to do is look at the life and deeds of Mohammud...

I've seen the lovely photos of hip and groovy Afghanistan.

The fact is, that was a very brief and very quickly gained flirtation with modernity.

To get to that point show in the photos, they had no solid foundation of a long and slowly gained history of secularism or path to modernity. It was transplanted there from somewhere else.  For them it was an aberration in their history.

It would be nice if it had stuck, but it's returned to it's natural order.

Their natural order for the foreseeable future is pure, brutal Islam.

Those Muslim countries look absolutely miserable. The people look so serious. Now I understand why they all want to live with us.

The region is completely devoid of morals when it comes to women and women's rights.

Killing a woman in a market in Afghanistan is not an aberration.

Now before we continue lets discuss some western history.

The Salem Witch trials were less than 150 years ago but that was in a puritanical vestige of the USA.

Witchcraft punishment ceased 300 years ago in England.
Not that long ago in the context of the 200k year history of Homo Sapiens but long enough for it to be considered ancient history in the context of one person.

So now lets jump back to 2016, in fact  just one month ago.

Sorry can't post a link yet

Pakistan religious leaders slam women's protection act
Act by Punjab state gives legal protection to women suffering from domestic, psychological, and sexual violence.

A law giving women protection from violence and abuse in Pakistan has been criticised by a religious body for being incompatible with Islam.

The Women's Protection Act, passed by Pakistan's largest province of Punjab last week, gives legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence.

The law also calls for the creation of a free abuse-reporting hotline and the establishment of women's shelters.

Since its passage in the Punjab assembly, some conservative religious leaders have denounced the new law as being in conflict with the Quran, as well as Pakistan's constitution.

Fazlur Rehman, the leader of one of Pakistan's largest religious parties, the Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam, said the law was in conflict with both Islam and the country's constitution.

"This law makes a man insecure," Reuters quoted him as saying. "This law is an attempt to make Pakistan a Western colony again."

The whole law is wrong,"  Muhammad Khan Sherani , the head of the Council of Islamic Ideology, said at a news conference, in which he claimed the law was "un-Islamic".

You're missing the point.

Different societies are living in different centuries. Muslims crossing over from North Africa or the Middle East are WAY more Time Travellers than they are distance travellers in geographical terms.

I once worked with a Turk who wanted to physically assault a couple who kissed briefly outside the entry to the workplace as the husband (or boyfriend) was dropping her off to do her secretarial job up in the office.

He saw it as a gross abuse of Muslim social convention.

Astonishing Pictures Of Afghanistan From Before The Wars

Before the U.S. invasion, before the Russian war, before the Marxist revolution, Afghanistan used to be a pretty nice place. An astonishing collection of photos from the 1960s was recently featured by the Denver Post.
Amateur photographer, and college professor, Dr. William Podlich took a leave of absence from his job at Arizona State to work with UNESCO in Kabul, bringing his wife and daughters with him.

Later, son-in-law Clayton Esterson revived the later doctor’s photos and put them on the web. The response was amazing.

Esterson told the Denver Post: “Many Afghans have written comments [on our website] showing their appreciation for the photographs that show what their country was like before 33 years of war. This makes the effort to digitize and restore these photographs worthwhile.”

You should look at some pics of Iran before the Islamic revolution in 1979.

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

I strongly urge anyone who is interested in the Taliban's treatment of women to read the book "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini,

Same guy who wrote "The Kite Runner" ... which you should also read.

How does the Taliban differ from the Saudis,Boko Haram,Al Shaabab or the Islamic state in treatment of women?

Correct.

There's no wriggle-room in Islam, and that's because the sacred texts are the literal Word of Allah.
