He didn't use it in reference to abuse victims though, as you did. He said it to people wallowing in self pity.

Different animal.

Really?  To whom was he addressing the comment?  Was it the tooth fairy?
she obviously didn't read the article. Grin Grin Grin Grin

You couldn't work it out for yourself either hey?   Roll Eyes
First base in the whole post was that he was insensitive to people who have been molested and you didn't know that fact from the start. That's 10 minutes of my life I won't be getting back. Grin Grin Grin

He wasn't though. He denounced people who are overcome with self pity. His reference to people who have been abused was in direct reference to people wanting great works of art censored.

This has been explained to you twice now.

Jesus, talking about the tooth fairy, it's like pulling teeth.
Love, the article was about his insensitive comments. He was blaming censorship in the arts on molestation victims who ban certain images etc.

Yes. THose overcome with self pity. Keep up Hammer.
Yes, and used molestation victims as an example. Anyway it's a bloody stupid argument from the start. A while back he did a show on homophobia. If he wants total freedom of expression then I hope he won't mind a 10 foot high canvas with P O O F T E R painted in pink painted across it.

Molestation victims who reside in a place of self pity.

It is an important distinction. One that Aussie did not make in his thread title and opening post.

THAT is what i am arguing.
So he believes some self pitying molestation victims and other self pitiers are complaining and getting cutting edged art banned? Huh

Not just cutting edge art. THe old classics too. Like people complaining about Macbeth or Medea banned because they contain child murder.
That's not only quite nasty and insensitive but insane. And  you agree with this rubbish?

Not in the slightest. On that issue, i agree with Stephen Fry.

I disagree with him on being contemptuous of people who are labouring under self pity. I'm more inclined to feel very sorry for them.
So you agree with Fry that self pitiers are destroying freedom of expression but you don't like the disrespect he shows towards these people? How?

I didn't say i didn't approve of the disrespect. I merely said i am more inclined to sympathy/empathy than contempt.

I think their ideas should be fought vigorously.

Hammer, what do you define as the "backbone" of his argument ... that i am not agreeing with?
