Mr Albanese, a leader of the ALP’s Left faction, today alleged the Liberals were preparing to direct preferences to the Greens in the progressive, inner-city seats of Grayndler, Sydney, Melbourne, Batman and Wills at this year’s election.
In exchange, he said, the Greens had agreed to aid the Coalition by not directing preferences to Labor in seven marginal outer-suburban and regional seats in Victoria and NSW.

The Greens defended the last-minute deal as a win for outcomes over protesting from the sidelines, but the Labor senator Doug Cameron disputed suggestions the party was “on the side of the angels”.
