So want to know where the next Aldi is opening in Canberra?

Well, it ain't southside.

Aldi opened a new store in Casey on Wednesday morning.

The German-based retailer is continuing to focus on the growing northern suburbs, opening a new store in Casey on Wednesday and revealing its next store will open at Majura Park soon - "by mid-2016".

That will bring the total number of Aldi stores in Canberra to 11, with the vast majority on the northside, following the burgeoning northern suburbs and the new Nappy Valley of Gungahlin.

There will be seven Aldis on the northside: Casey, Gungahlin, Majura Park, Belconnen, Macquarie, Kippax-Holt and in the Canberra Centre.

The southside has to contend with just four Aldis: at Tuggeranong, Chisholm and Weston.

An Aldi Australia spokesperson confirmed to The Canberra Times that its next store would open at the Majura Park Shopping Centre by mid-2016.

That will make Majura Park a hotspot for supermarket shopping in the ACT, with a Costco and Woolworths already on site.

"We know there is a strong appetite among Canberra residents for an alternative place to shop," the spokesperson said.

"As part of our long-term expansion plans we are always open to exploring new store locations.

Aldi will be competing with Costco and Woolworths at its next location at Majura Park.

"We are pleased to confirm our next location in the ACT will be within Majura Park Shopping Centre, with a store likely to open in mid-2016.

"When establishing a new store, Aldi considers the long-term potential of the area including population numbers.

"We work closely with local planning bodies such as councils, other businesses and community groups to help ensure new stores positively impact the local areas."
