Doesn't this sound as bit too convenient? That these leaks were known about months ago but right here, right now the AFP decide to carry out raids.

This smacks of Political Interference from the Government.

I think the fix is in. This campaign just got really, really dirty on the Liberals' part.

Be careful.

The AFP are stating all over the mass media that their raid on Labor was a response to a concern raised by the NBN.

Everything in life is timing Lisa. I'm no great Labor fan but this is win, win situation for the Liberals.  I've been around long enough to know when someone presses a button that causes major ripples. This is one of those occasions.

Wow, how desperate are the Libs?
This has got to be the elections Godwin Greach moment. I hope for Turnbulls sake the AFP find something, otherwise this looks like the former Soviet Union keeping the opposition in its place.

Since when does the Liberal Party give orders to the AFP? Umm, never! This is an AFP investigation and they've decided they have enough to go to a Judge to request a warrant to do a number of searches. Obviously the Judge decided that the AFP have a good enough case to have issued a warrant. So just what is the Liberal Party involvement besides the government asking the AFP to investigate these illegal leaks?

Early days.  Who knows who will wear the sheet on this.

Agreed, though why are the AFP so interested in investigating this particular leak when there have been many more leaks?

Because it has caused a financial impact to the NBN Co.

The AFP are on the LIb's payroll? Shocked

You would have to be very naive or butt stupid if you didn't think the government had pull over the actions of the AFP.

You'd have to be a total and complete imbecile if you thought the government didn't take separation of powers seriously, knowing full-well the grief they'd be in for if anything untoward were later revealed. Besides, the Judge that issued the search warrant obviously thought there was enough in the AFP investigation to grant their request for the warrant. That's not something any political party can manipulate.

It takes time to do an investigation such as this, to gather evidence, to get warrants for accessing phone bills, e-mails, etc. They needed to have a strong case to seek a search warrant and the hard work of the AFP has subsequently paid off.

This investigation has the potential to bring down Conroy, the guy who screwed the NBN from day one. If he's involved in the leaking of confidential information, he can face jail and if he gets more than 12 months, he's gone from politics. It would be just as well too, because he's one of the biggest grubs in politics and certainly one of the more incompetent Labor MP's in recent times.

In a statement this morning the AFP confirmed that it executed two search warrants in Melbourne as part of an investigation concerning allegations of the unauthorised disclosure of Commonwealth information.

“These allegations were the subject of a referral from the National Broadband Network Company (NBN Co), received by the AFP on 9 December 2015,” it said.

“This investigation has been ongoing since that date.

This investigation has been undertaken independent of government, and decisions regarding yesterday’s activity were made by the AFP alone.”

The AFP said the searches conducted in East Melbourne and Brunswick were part of a “phased approach that the AFP has undertaken” regarding the investigation.

“The next phase of this investigation involves the examination and analysis of material collected during these search warrants,” it said.

“The federal government and opposition were appropriately notified and advised of operational activity regarding this matter after it commenced yesterday.

“The AFP has received assistance from the NBN Co in this investigation, which included facilitating interviews with a number of NBN Co employees as part of yesterday’s activity.

“This investigation remains ongoing, and the AFP will provide further detail when it is appropriate to do.”

The company issued a statement saying: “NBN Co can confirm it is assisting the Australian Federal Police with an ongoing investigation. As this investigation is ongoing, it is not appropriate to comment any further.’’

Reminds me of the Libs referring Peter Slipper to the AFP for travel rorts....How did that work out for the Coalition (Mal Brough)???

This will bite Turnbull on the ass....What it will reveal is someone from NBN disclosed confidential information that will embarrass the Government and in particular Malcolm Turnbull....Someone might get charged but Turnbull will wear the fallout for being incompetent and shallow!!!

Cool Cool Cool
