Federal Police raids Labor party offices in Melbourne

The Australian Federal Police are raiding Labor party offices in Melbourne, Labor frontbencher Tony Burke has confirmed.

An AFP spokesperson said police were conducting operational activities in the area as part of an ongoing investigation, but would not provide details of the operation.

Mr Burke said there were allegations that documents had been leaked from the NBN.

"There's no doubt the leaks that came from the NBN caused immense damage to Malcolm Turnbull when they showed that the cost blowout of the NBN, the fact that it was slower, the fact that it was going to be delayed," he told 7.30.

But Mr Burke raised concerns many previous leaks had not been referred to the AFP.

"During the life of this Parliament, on 23 different occasions we've asked about leaks from all parts of this Government, right through to the National Security Committee of cabinet," he said.

"The night before the budget, government staffers were handing out cabinet in confidence documents around the press gallery.

"I know how many of those inquiries have resulted in police raids. I don't know how many times they've been referred to the AFP."

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann stressed the independence of the AFP.

"The AFP is an entirely independent organisation that makes their own judgements on these things," he said.

Early days.  Who knows who will wear the sheet on this.

yet to have discourse upon the raids ..

the labor politicians being raided maybe criminals,

and as such

they may be checking for evidence of that nature ..

Wow, how desperate are the Libs?
This has got to be the elections Godwin Greach moment. I hope for Turnbulls sake the AFP find something, otherwise this looks like the former Soviet Union keeping the opposition in its place.
